added comment - the 10 fellows, about which I wrote, were just for he 2009/2010 cycle. J&J's Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has been doing this for YEARS.

Have you any idea how many ex-pharma employees serve at the FDA? Did you know the "non" profit of J&J has a "fellowship" program where they pay up to $165,000 to EACH and then give them FREE OF CHARGE to Congressional members, Congressional Committees and federal agencies? 10 "fellows" worked for FREE, writing POLICIE and ADVISING Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi, several committees, some other Congressional members and 3 of them were given to Health & Human Services which is OVER THE FDA. We've turned the sheep over to the wolves. We wrote to get Chantix off the market but the FDA said the benefits outweighed the risks. I wonder if that's what the mothers of these girls are being told.

United Press International - UPI.com : Under the U.S. Supreme Court: Did Big Tobacco finally get burned? - UPI.com

Evidently, UPI censors comments. I posted documentation about how big pHARMa's nicotine is highly addictive, increases the risk for cancer, the patches have a 98.4% failure rate for long term quitting and that the government has been duped into paying billions and billions for these products. But I guess UPI won't allow PROOF of the truth to be posted.

KY3 : Group won\'t drop effort to ban smoking in public places in Springfield MO | KY3 News, Weather, Spor

You need to read the Anti-Tobacco Cartels' playbook. It says right in there that they won't "allow" exemptions of any kind. http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/CIA_Fundamentals.pdf Quote: "If unacceptable legislation is proposed, your coalition must speak out forcefully against the objectionable provisions. If elected officials are unwilling to strengthen the language despite your best efforts, you must mobilize your forces to actively oppose the ordinance. It is best to walk away with nothing than to be left with an ineffective ordinance that may haunt you and undermine your efforts for years to come." Read their playbook. Use it against them. Smoking bans do hurt bars!!! I know. I'm a bar owner in Ohio. It closed 313 of 2,345 the first year alone. Ohio lost out on over $12,000,000 in sales taxes from liquor alone the first 2 years. That doesn't include beer sales tax losses. My friend Candace just lost their family owned bar after being in business 26 years. They declared bankruptcy and lost their home, too.

That's quite interesting seeing how every state that's had smoking banned in bars closes bars. It's also interesting that our bar is proof. And, I'm a Regional Director for Buckeye Liquor Permit Holders Association and we've had SEVERAL members lose their businesses DIRECTLY because of the ban. So how often are you wanting to go to bars? Daily? Enough to replace the everyday customers we lost? Or do you just go twice a month? You people kill me. It's ok...don't believe me. I give Michigan until good and cold December before the bars are SCREAMING at the legislature. Oh...and all the other states who've lost business because of the smoking ban must be wrong, too, huh? Ergo - the proof will be Michigan's own undoing.

Really? Do YOU own a bar? I DO. You think Michigan is any different than all the other states where bar owners are MAD AS HELL that as soon as they went smoke-free, they lost vast amounts of money? How much money does Tobacco-Control pay you to post garbage like this? If you prefer smoke-free places, why don't YOU BUY ONE? YOU and those like you want everything your way, not matter who loses money or their private property rights. Well, YOU have the right, like we did, to invest every DIME into a business. Only pray the government doesn't dictate to YOU who your customers will be.

I thought Michigan's economy was tanking. Now, you're going to have unemployed bartenders, musicians, vending companies will lose money, smoke eater businesses will go bankrupt. Funny thing. Our businesses used to be the place both blue and white collar people worked when they were unemployed. Now there's no safety net for them because bars, too, will be laying off.

Anti-tobacco is devious. First, this press release is a boilerplate press release. Read any one of them and TC finds one person who says now they'll quit smoking (like she couldn't have quit without a ban?). They skew numbers and statistics. For example, Clearway Minnesota funded a study (how else do you think a TC funded study will turn out?) using NAICS employment data for bars and restaurants. Mind you, these numbers had to be obtained separately because bars is one NAICS and restaurants another. They combine the employment data ON PURPOSE and then proclaim the ban does not hurt bars and restaurants. What they don't tell you is, in Minn. restaurants outnumber bars 5:1. Restaurant employees outnumber bar employees 10:1. So for every 1 laid off bar employee, 50 restaurant employees overpower the loss. Chain restaurants do fine with smoking ban. They make their money getting you in and out, refilling your seat with another paying customer. Not so with bars. Many mom and pop restaurants can't compete with food prices so they "had" loyal smoking customers who didn't mind paying a little more.

In October, the 10th District Court of Appeals issued the Pour House decision on the illegal enforcement of the ban. In February, another decision was made in the Zeno's case. In BOTH cases, the Ohio Dept. of Health was severely chastized for imposing strict liability against the owners. The judges ruled if the owner put up the sign, took away ashtrays and told people they could not smoke that the owner could not be held responsible for others' actions. The arrogant Attorney General has appealed the ruling and they continue to illegally enforce the ban. A liquor permitting association is going to file a class action lawsuit to have all its members fines and court costs returned.

They must have used Ohio's ban verbiage for Michigan''s ban. What they don't tell you is that Ohio's bars and private clubs have closed in the thousands. Last year, we lost 6,700 employees. It's financially devastating for liquor establishments. We own a bar and we barely made it through the winter. You see, all these "new" customers we were promised never came. Anti-smokers are also anti-drinkers. Our smoking customers now party at each other's homes. Why spend more money on a beer when you have to leave your friends, a warm bar to brave sub-zero weather to enjoy a cigarette. No one cares that it puts unmonitored drinkers on the road now. I was just informed yesterday that nearly HALF (41 of 88) of the Ohio county health departments have OPTED OUT of enforcement due to lack of funds. The state has spent over $3,000,000 enforcing the ban and have recouped $434,000 in fines.

Let the wealthy non-profits spend their money handing out the "free" gum and patches. It's why they've been given the luxury of being tax-exempt. Get the government out of the business of funding these non-profits and making them wealthier than they already are. Take the ACS. FY ending 2008, they spent just a little over HALF of what their salaries, benefits, pensions amounted to for cancer patient & family support. Let them cut down on some of the hired fundraisers & let them buy the patches & gum (by the way, the patches have a 98.4% FAILURE rate for quitting 1 year or longer and the gum causes high blood pressure, extreme hair loss, skin lesions and is FAR more addictive than cigarettes http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=18... We need to put SHS/ETS on TRIAL using the Judicial Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence. Their "evidence" wouldn't pass muster. Where's the demand for truth? It shouldn't matter if it's 2nd hand tobacco smoke, the hoax of global warming or anything else. The truth is the truth and we should ALL demand it.

ClimateGate, obesity, sugar, etc. are all out of the playbook from tobacco-control. The drastic drop in heart attack hospital admissions studies have been busted like ClimateGate, yet no one prints a retraction. In fact, RWJF, the ACS, etc. keep telling the lie because tobacco has been demonized and anyone who wants to expose what's really going on gets ostracized. Many doctors HAVE been because they're upset that when their studies don't "prove" what tobacco-control wants proven, the doctors & scients have been provessionally ruined and outcast by their peers. You, Mr. Huston, fell for the rhetoric hook, line and sinker. I hope you don't like a beer or are 5 lbs. overweight. They come for you, next.

The war on obesity? Started by RWJF (J&J owns Splenda & EthiconEndo bariatric surgery company). They buy laws from which they profit, all the while enjoying tax-exempt status as a "non" profit. CEO William Weldon (J&J) TOOK HOME, last year, 29.4 MILLION DOLLARS. Tobacco-Free Kids, named in your article, was created and funded starting with $84,000,000 by RWJF. Now William Corr (ex-TFK) is an Obama lobbyist appointee to Health & Human Services. RWJF funds studies, polls, etc. including one study that said the source of funding influences the outcome of ETS studies...only, of course, they made the claim against tobacco company funding. What about RWJF funding? They stand to profit!

Mr. Huston, you disappointed me. You're quick to jump on the "science" of ClimateGate, yet you believed the "science" of secondhand smoke. "Science" is bought when political agendas are involved. http://www.data-yard.net/ets_summary/study_list.h... is a compilaton of SHS/ETS. The danger of SHS/ETS was invented to force people into the cold, to be shunned/outcast to force them to quit smoking. Tobacco-control calls it "denormalizing behaviors". Look to who is financially behind smoking bans & tobacco-control. It's the PROFITABLE, "non" profit of Johnson & Johnson, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, created with JnJ stock valued, at last annual report, at $2,824,311,000. J&J owns Nicoderm & Nicorette.

Michelle, this election fraud has impacted an entire sector in Ohio: bars & private clubs. We employ MANY people who have been laid off because SmokeFree Ohio lied. They told the voters it would NOT hurt our businesses. BIG LIE. They claimed exemptions the voters read when they voted for family owned and operated businesses, private clubs and outdoor patios. There ARE no exemptions. Lie #2. "Exempt from the smoking restrictions certain locations...outdoor patios, private clubs, and family-owned and operated places of business; There were 8 little words missing that would have clearly said no exemptions: "not open to the public" and "with no employees". Now we find they committed fraud to get it on the ballot? Do you know how many people have lost everything because they took a risk to open a bar business in Ohio? Or the charitable VFWs, etc. that have closed? Sorry, but it IS a big deal to those of us who invested every dime we have into one of these businesses. We, too, are worried about feeding, clothing and sheltering our families.

This makes me so ANGRY. We're struggling like crazy to not lose our tavern. My husband and I have drained our savings trying to stay open. We have 4 employees that we're trying to keep employed. Our losses didn't start with a bad economy. Our losses started BEFORE the bad economy. They started the day AFTER we were forced to cater to anti-smokers. Smokers and non-smokers were our customers. They were friends and they came in after work to hang out together. Now not only are the smokers gone, the NON smokers are, too, because their smoking friends don't come in any more. And where are the whining anti-smokers? Sitting at home where they ALWAYS were. This is wrong and now we find that it took fraud to get this on the ballot? The ballot language was fraud. They promised exemptions which people voted for and then *poof* they were gone! Not enough signatures? Heads should roll!!! And at the very LEAST, the legislature should return our businesses to US to run. If they do, we'll forget about all the money we've lost since May, 2007. At least, that's how my husband and I feel.
