Daily Camera.com: : Pope beseeches world leaders to protect the environment - Boulder Daily Camera

Yeah, that's right, the Pope himself has now joined the supposed "War on Christianty". Or maybe MAYBE a large number of American Christians have strayed from Jesus' stated principles in favor of materialism and are not at all interested in returning to them?

What kind of logic is this? So, if you drop a paper cup in the street - that's your responsibility. But if the company you work for drops 10,000 paper cups in the street, that's no one's responsibility? It's what God wanted? Extrapolate this to air and sea pollution, please. You could easily do any of those things yourself and accept blame but companies/governments doing so on a large scale would be blameless?

Environmental stewardship: yet another part of the Bible that many conservative American Christians would choose to ignore as they focus instead on hate and making sure nobody takes what's "theirs."

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder council candidates pledge to listen to voters - Boulder Daily Camera

As much as I disagree with the Folsom right-sizing, it's really just the latest in a string of disagreements I have with the Council. As long as it isn't being expanded and the candidates are at least open to having it removed after data collection, I dont' want to fall into the trap of letting the most recent issue in my mind become the most important. My personal list: Will candidate support a moratorium on height exceptions throughout the city How will candidate address the homelessness issue, aggressive panhandling and the heightened presence of homeless in the municipal/creek/library area specifically How will candidate improve plowing (personal issue for me as I travel the Front Range for work and know Boulder is worst at plowing) Candidates opinion on the homeless housing built in Nobo Position on VRBOS Position on the approval of the Google building (I love Google but don't think that was a good location due to traffic concerns)

As I asked on a previous article, how do we justify spending $7 million to shave 3 minutes off the commute time for commuters at the new Table Mesa overpass while also stating that adding minutes to the commute time for Folsom drivers is acceptable? And besides the economic impact to businesses and frustration of the drivers, what is the environmental impact of X number of cars idling for an additional X minutes every day?

Democrats are far better for vets. Cannot understand vets who vote Republican. Here is the IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America) report card for Congress - note that there are 0 Republicans on their Senate "A" list and 29 Republicans and only 1 Democrat on their Senate "D" list.
Daily Camera.com: : Boulder to make offer on BCH Broadway campus - Boulder Daily Camera

Hmm. Agreeing with everyone who points out we don't need prime real estate being used for government office space. However, I'm curious what, if any, special considerations or financial assistance BCH has ever received from the city? Either at this campus of Foothills? Because if they've received any city perks, I don't think it's unreasonable for the city to ask for a little special consideration in the sale process. I live nearby and don't underestimate the large setbacks of the current buildings. I just hope it isn't sold to a developer who's going to develop every square inch up to the curb and receive height exceptions, etc.

Ridiculous. The same accident happened with a motorcyclist and none of these comments or debate existed. Look it up in the archives if you want. It was about 2-3 years ago. SUV or station wagon pulled out into 36 and the motorcyclist didn't have room to stop so hit the car and died. Seriously, NONE of these idiotic physics comments or bickering about who had the right of way or who should've yielded BS. In fact, my recollection is almost all the comments either expressed condolences or lambasted the driver of the car.

Daily Camera.com: : Friend of student killed in Boulder intrusion: \'That wasn\'t who I knew\' - Boulder Daily Camera

I had something similar happen when I was a teenager (so 20+ years ago). A neighborhood boy, about 17 years old, showed up at our house, yelling and banging on the windows. I was home alone and had no idea what was going on. As I was looking out my window, I watched him open the back screen door, bang on it and then break the wood door open with just the force of his body (in hindsight, pretty amazing for a 17 year old). Then he was in the house. I ran into my parent's bedroom and called 911. I could hear things banging around and he continued talking/yelling to himself. I remember just being terrified but also totally confused. Anyway, I moved into the master bathroom and after a few minutes the police showed up. One officer placed himself over me - kind of protecting me with his body or maybe just ensuring that I wouldn't move - and I could see that the other officer was in a shooting stance and pointing his gun down the hallway. I couldn't see the intruder but I could tell by the officer's actions that he wasn't responding to his commands (whether it was "put your hands up" or "get down", I can't remember). Anyway, he was getting more agitated, I was crying and yelling, "don't shoot him!". I guess he eventually did what the officer wanted because he brought his gun down and placed the intruder under arrest. As it turns out, he had been hanging around with some other teens from our neighborhood, getting drunk or high, and they gave him something else. Something stronger, though I can't recall or never knew what it was. And I'm pretty sure they found out that they gave it to him without telling him what it was. He left that house and had been walking the neighborhood banging on windows and doors. I can understand that they were terrified. Or, at least, she was. And I know they were 100% within their legal rights to stand their ground and shoot. But I think I'd still do the same thing today, even if I had a gun - I'd grab it and run to the basement, or a closet, before confonting or shooting. It's funny that something that serious happened to me and I almost never even think of it anymore. And the teenager who entered our house is now grown with two teenage daughters. So I'm so glad the police officer kept his wits about him and handled the situation so well.

Daily Camera.com: : The spread of Flatirons gospel: Expanding church causes unease in Lafayette - Boulder Daily Camera

American Christianity has become such a joke and this "church" is a perfect example. As someone who grew up in the Jewish faith, I was always jealous of my Christian friends' holidays because they seemed so much more fun. As an adult I can see it for what it is: bribe and ply them with candy, gifts and cuddly icons and they will come. But apparently all the chocolate and gifts weren't enough. Now they need their services to be a combination of a rock concert and a movie to get people in the door. They serve bagels instead of popcorn (that's rich). I guess I shouldn't care since I'm not Christian. But it all just feels so cheap. There's a great scene in "God Grew Tired of Us" where the Somali refugees making a new life in America try to absorb how materialistic and distorted American Christianity is. That's what Flatirons reminds me of.

Pray tell, what insight do you have into this case that you know for a fact that they haven't "determined exactly what happened?" They may never know precisely which bump in the road or turn of the van was the one that broke his neck. But there's video of the arrest right up until he's put in the van. He went into the van alive and arrives at booking unconscious with a spinal cord injury. They didn't seatbelt him, which is against policy. There's no one else in the van with access to him other than the driver. The entire timeline and all participants are accounted for (unlike in Ferguson where you had a bunch of unreliable witnesses and no video). A jury may still acquit, but the SA seems to have a thorough accounting of each person's actions at this point. This isn't Ferguson.
