GazetteOnline.com : 130 arrests tied to rivalry game between Hawkeyes, Cyclones

It was a great day with the exception from 9:00-9:15, it put a damper on the day. It is bummer that the cops can't leave good people alone. They should spend their energy going after the drunk college kids who can't hold their booze, but to go after a 32 yr old school teacher who is just asking a question. Where is the rationale? I just don't understand. I was not a threat to anyone around me, I was just asking a question.

I was still unsure about the new rules so I asked. 4 cops in a golf cart raced to get their ticket books out so they can write me a ticket. I go to one game a year, at most. I was walking with my wife to a friends tailgate. All they had to do was say the rules have changed, dump your Old Milwaukee out. Instead, they were not helpful or respectful. I was not drunk, I just asked a question and I got burned. I could have snuck right by them and I would have been ok, but I try to ask and do the right thing and the cops hosed me. Not cool

GazetteOnline.com : Big Ten expansion candidate: Maryland

Maryland? Don't you think we can find quality schools a bit closer? Maryland is too far to travel. The Maryland/Minnesota game is gonna be a huge rivalry.?Maryland is not a good choice. Is the next school for consideration going to be Oregon? Big 10 expansion should be focused on the midwest, if no schools fit the bill then don't expand. It is not like the Big 10 is going broke and needs to expand for survival, it is a money thing, and trying to keep up with the SEC.

Give ND one more chance and if they say no then the Big 10 needs to say that ND can no longer play Michigan, MSU, and Purdue. They play 12 games and 25% are Big 10 teams. If they do not want to join then they are no longer allowed to schedule Big 10 teams.

GazetteOnline.com : Council makes it official: Allan Thoms interim city manager starting June 1

3 x 12,500 = 37,000. So in 3 months he will make more than a starting teacher. Can some one please tell me what his job description will be? Is it just me or is this city a bit backwards with a few issues...our roads are horrible, teachers are getting laid off but there is enough money to pay an old guy hang out and look like he is really busy. Doesn't make sense to me. Congrats big Allan, wish I was in your shoes.

GazetteOnline.com : Lickliter's 2010 Iowa recruits weren't bums

They wanted out of their commitments, so let them go. I would pull the offer from the table. They are primadonas who just want the new coaching staff to make them feel special. Grow up boys. You don't want to play for Iowa, then leave. Larson has bigger issues to worry about and Brust is looking for attention. Take down the Iowa stickers Ben. The new coaching staff should not have to deal with this nonsense from two spoiled 18 yr olds.

GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids school district will cut staff

Everyone makes really good points here in this post, the admins are too numerous and make too much moola, but the reality is they will always have their jobs and the teachers will be the first to go. I know many teachers and they work their tails off trying to educate and keep up the the huge amount of assessing and paperwork that must be completed. The responsiblities of the teachers increase while the responsiblities of the principals remain the same, yet it is the teachers who are first to go. It would be nice if some admins would find other employment but that won't happen. Tinytweety said it best.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa basketball loses another; Brust released from commitment

Wisconsin looks at a lot of players, if they offer him and he produces there then I will be proven wrong, I just don't see him not going to Iowa as a bad thing. It opens up a scholarship for a player that fits McCafferys system. Nothing against Brust, if he doesn't want to be a Hawkeye then don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

KCRG : MIDWEST: Ill. Lawmakers May Let Schools Adopt 4-day Week | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Spo

Extending the school day for 30 minutes for 3 weeks to make up for the snow days is a different story then extending the day by about 90 minutes Mon-Thurs to compensate for only having school 4 days a week. This is not a good idea, especially for the lower elementary grades, it might work in high school however

I am pretty sure Brust is not going to find too many more high D1 offers out there. Let him go. He is a lot like Payne and we all saw Payne's struggles this season. Not too broken up about him or Larson leaving, just more scholarships for Frantastic to use to build his program. It is a bummer about Fuller, he improved so much in two seasons, he could be really good when he is a senior

I saw one of these dogs, it was in bad shape. Its teeth were rotten and her fur was so bad it fell out when it got brushed. My buddy was fostering one and it was so scared and frightened. It is a shame that it had to go back there, it was clearly not being treated well.
