GazetteOnline.com : Replacing road over Lake Delhi dam could take two years, cost millions

Yes, good idea. Lets go after the victims. Make them pay! The ones whose homes were nearly destroyed. It was definitely their fault. They probably even did this on purpose. Maybe it was to get attention. Very compassionate.

Oh. So it wasn't the 10in. of rain in 12 hours? Stupid me! You realize that lake has basically been at the same level for decades? There are people that have had the same homes there for 40, 50 years that have never had a drop of water, then they get it almost to their ceilings. We can not control or know what nature will do. Sometimes freak things happen. I mean look at Cedar Rapids 2 years ago. Should they have not built a town on the Cedar River 150 or so years ago?

Again, it was a PUBLIC hi-way that was damaged, not a private dam. One that is used for farm to market, school buses, commuters, etc. Also, it's not just "vacation homeowners" on the lake. Many are year-around residents, which in many cases are the more expensive homes, thus paying the most property tax.

The dam itself is not what's damaged, it's the road leading up to it. Therefore, it must be repaired with public funds considering it is a vital public roadway. Build a bridge? Yeah, that will save money. Delaware Co. needs that lake for all the money it brings in. What else does the county have? Manchester? That town sucks.

GazetteOnline.com : Downstream residents dodge bullet after Lake Delhi dam fails

The dam did not fail. It was the "state hi-way" leading up to it. The dam is still standing, which means it must be fairly strong to take that after 80 years. You can't rely on the news, they never get stories correct.

GazetteOnline.com : The future of Lake Delhi is in limbo

People are getting their facts all mixed up here, the dam did not fail. "Culver noted the dam itself did not fail. It was the approach roads on each side that floodwaters breached." So since it was not the dam, but in fact the road leading up to the dam(which is a state hi-way), it will be up to the state to fix it. And anyone who says this is the end of the lake obviously knows nothing about it or the people on it. This is a mere bump on the road, because this lake is dear to many hearts, and it brings too much money to Delaware Co. Plus, FEMA came through giving out money last for something that was nothing compared to this. There's no doubt they will do the same considering all the national attention.
