Big Government : Adventures In Bad Policy-Making: Cook County Looks At More Tax Hikes

Sadly, smoking is hardly a choice people can make for themselves these days. Now it's an expensive privilege. On top of paying extortion-rate cigarette taxes, society doesn't even appreciate the significant contributions smokers make. No other group of people have been forced to contribute as much to society as smokers in the past 30 years. No other group has lost more of their rights in the past 30 years either. It's time society started appreciating the price smokers pay. Unfortunately I decided to quit my smoking habit, I couldn't afford it any longer.

The era of entitlements is ending. There will be crying, whining, and concessions. So far public sector employees have been shielded from the pain in the private sector. Gregoire will no doubt do whatever she can to protect the unions, but without Bernanke's printing presses she is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Big Government : Restoring Federalism: Repeal the Seventeenth Amendment

Repealing the 17th amendment would also limit special-interest power in Washington. It would remove Senators from having to accumulate massive campaign war chests because they no longer need to win citizen votes, just the state legislature. Corporations and unions alike would not have the unbridled power they currently enjoy in both the house and the senate. The people NEED to repeal the 17th amendment.

KLEW - Lewiston, ID : Full house at Asotin Tea Party | KLEW CBS 3 - News, Weather and Sports - Lewiston, ID - Lewiston, Id

FraNEB, you are in danger of falling off your high horse. I used the phrase "ending the life" as a figure of speech, to personify that the Senator's seat isn't a right, but a privilege that can and will be revoked by the people unless changes are made in Washington DC. I had every intention to state my position in a provocative manner, partially to stroke my satirical ego and also to make the point that it is CRITICAL that our congressional representatives start listening to common sense before the hole we are in becomes too burdensome to overcome. You are nitpicking and moving closer to the same camp as ChristianLibrul. If you want to blast the tea partiers for their politics, base your criticism on the issues and policies. The first amendment still protects the freedom of speech, especially political speech, why spend your time attacking one personal opinion and portraying the entire movement as condoning it? You must remember the way the Republican Party tried demeaning anti-war protesters by attacking their patriotism during the Iraq war. The Democrats and their political correctness police are just as absurd and equally as destructive to the conversation this country needs to have. This type of identity-based political discussion is coming from both the R and D party. It is one reason why I find myself more aligned with the tea party movement rather than the two mainstreamed political brands taking our country down the wrong path. That said, I have nothing to be ashamed about regarding my choice of words used. If you want to criticize people for their “violent or hateful speech,” then you should consider the mainstream media, the President, the leaders in Congress, and the rest of the political elitists that have demeaned, ridiculed, insulted, slandered, and disrespected the tea party movement from the very beginning. All the attempts to silence the only political opposition to the powers that be over the past year have been ruthless, full of contempt, and most of all disrespectful. And you wonder why they aren’t hiding their anger anymore? Your attempt to portray the tea partiers as having a monopoly on the trashy political rhetoric is laughable.

I consider myself a tea partier. The speaker was over the line. There's plenty of tea partiers that I don't agree with, whether it be their message, the delivery of their message, or just their politics in general, but I still have more in common with this movement than I do with either the R or D party. I would never wish physical harm on a congressperson based on their politics. I do, however, fully support ending the life of Sen. Murray's political career as long as she supports the unsustainable policies bleeding our federal government and our country dry. Christianlibrul - You are nuts, and you sounds like a conspiracy theorist. Good luck in life, you'll need it.
