Daily Camera.com: : Albert Petersen: The Republican Party is the party of nothing - Boulder Daily Camera

Good question. How about Obama's promise after he won election that Republicans can get on his bus, but they'll have to sit in the back? Or Obama's exhortation to Latinos that they should join him in rewarding their friends and punishing their enemies? Or his saying of Sarah Palin, "They can put lipstick on a pig, but..."? Obama won the votes of the young and idealistic by saying that we're not red states and blue states, but one united States. Then after election, he's proceeded on a partisan, scorched earth policy of punishing his enemies--via the Justice Department, the IRS, and other agencies. What a charlatan!

Right on. Cease and desist! Consider that Republicans are crafting a bill to legislate that the administration enforce the numerous bills passed decades ago. The only aspect of these bills ever implemented or enforced is the amnesty part. We're in the Lewis Carroll opiate realm at this stage.

Daily Camera.com: : Steven L. Speidel: Capitalism -- Social ethics must drive economy - Boulder Daily Camera

Detroit is capitalism gone global? I'm wracking my brain to figure that one out. Let's see. Detroit labor unions negotiated contracts that were economically unsustainable. Taxes were high, and Blacks rioted and preyed upon the whites, so they left. The tax base was gone. The racist Black mayor and leadership permitted Blacks to run amok. Detroit is a perfect example of what happens when liberals have unimpeded control of the socio-economic structure of a city. Too bad for the average working class stiff who tried to make a living in that pit of a place.

Steven Speidel asserts that businesses strive to make profits while conniving for the demise of the common man. What hogwash! This indicates no knowledge of economics or basic common sense. People act in their own self interest, and under capitalism, that benefits us all. Small businesses provide the employment for close to 80% of Americans, so the success (profitability) of those businesses is essential to our economic sustainability. For businesses to plot the demise of their customers would be preposterous. Conversely, for the common man to cheer the demise of businesses, in terms of shrinking profits, would be economic suicide. I wonder at the naivete of the anti-capitalists. By now, with so many socialist and communist utopias having been relegated to the "ash heaps of history," the wisdom of Churchill's observation is clearer than ever: Capitalism is not the best imaginable economic system, just the best possible system."

Daily Camera.com: : Will: On immigration, ghosts of Christmas past - Boulder Daily Camera

Free public education for all is a relatively new idea, and only since Lyndon Johnson did the federal government begin intervening and mandating how it should be provided. That was unconstitutional, in violation of the 10th Amendment. Added to that insult, the Supreme Court ruled that U.S. taxpayers must provide a free public school education to illegal immigrants. Not sure what they based that ruling on, but it hastened the demise of the public schools. Entitlements we have come to enjoy are mostly unconstitutional. That document was meant to enumerate what limitations of government we are entitled to. We're not supposed to be entitled to have our neighbors provide for us.

Daily Camera.com: : Christopher Loven sentenced to home monitoring in 2009 crash that killed cyclist - Boulder Daily Cam

If Loven had chased down the cyclist and beaten him with a baseball bat, the charges would be completely different. This was a case of careless driving resulting in death of the cyclist. Reasonable people would not assume that Loven deliberately calculated the turn so as to kill a cyclist.

The left turn which killed the cyclist was an accident. Animal cruelty resulting in horrific suffering is a monstrous act which cannot be compared to careless driving or careless ANYTHING. Fortunately, intent is always a factor in the judicial system.
