I dont necessarily think the parents use the terms regularly. It could be a combination. You know who I hear use the terms regularly? I hear it from people who I thought didn't like the terms. I deal with youth of all races and adults of all races and I hear some of the worst comments made by young black teenagers or just young black people in general. I find it offensive when they use those certain terms. If I ask them to stop, the usual response is..."You're not black, why do you care?" OR "I'm not saying it in a bad way." What does that even mean?

We cant get past these issues or any issues for that matter if there isnt accountability.....And that goes for everyone.

Obviously you need to discipline the students, hopefully that also included the student who "hit another". I think its a little overboard to create a black history exhibit promoting respect and etc. You are only going to create more hostility if you keep throwing it in their faces. Let the dust settle and talk about it in class. Find out what it means to the students and the history of the country. You know this is history for white people as well. I think its great we have a black president, although I didnt vote for him (thats another story) but its great that our country has a new turning point.
