Is this really the issue? I am so amazed at the lack of respect for peoples opinions and ideas when the main concern is our childrens education. I would love to see more ideas posted on how to fix this issue rather than attacks on grammer, spelling and such.

Tims portfolio was left at the Rumor Mill so the community could see his qualifications. Last year while on leave he contacted the shop teacher when he heard about him retiring. The shop teacher was so impressed with Tims qualification that he put off retirement until Tim could return and take over. So it WAS what you know not who you know.

No cussing or yelling went on. Tim has his Idaho teaching certificate which more than shows he is qualified to teach. He also has 7 years teaching experience, an associates degree and is ASE Master certified. His qualification are available to the public too see. He has had no problems adjusting to civilian life except for this issue. Tim created lesson plans while still stationed in Korea. Members of the Emmett community are more than aware of this situation considering the kids at the highschool knew a year ago that he was coming to replace the retiring shop teacher. Tim still has privates who he trained as a drill sgt contacting him through email letting him know how they are doing. Thats the kind of person he is. He cares about the impact he makes in the lives of the young people he has trained.

Yes I agree there are great teachers in our schools but the school district does not have a hiring policy. Tim was never told about this process until the end of October. The board stated they do not always hire based on qualifications. Mr Spicer asked him to come to the school when he got home. He was introduced to 2 classes of student as the new shop teacher and then to the principle who informed him of the "Process". Everyone including Mrs. Betiia assumed Tim was taking over for Mr Spicer. Someone made a mistake here and I believe the hiring committee and the school board need to be held accountable. For almost a year Tim and his family were in contact with Mr Spicer and Mrs Betia through phone calls and email. Nothing was ever said about a "Process". Mr Spicer put off retirement so Tim could take over when he got home. There will be an investigation of this matter and hopefully everything will be resolved.

There was no screaming or misconduct. The board refused to let anyone address this issue. The board allowed Tim to invite whomever he wanted to the executive meeting but was only allowed 30 minutes to state his case. So there was no time for anyone else be present or ask questions. If the board had been understanding and admitted there was fault in the situation and change would be made to insure this never happened again it would have been understandable. But the lack of compassion and the condesending attitudes of the top board members was terrible. These are the people making choices for our children. I do not have anything against the young man they are chosing to hire. I do have a problem when they chose the least qualified individual. Tims portfolio was never present during the interview and was never seen by all members of the hiring committee. If they had they would have seen his evaluations as a teacher. You took the time to talk to this young man, maybe you should also take the time to talk to Tim. Tim is good with kids and has a lot of patients.

No one can control the actions of others. But I personally did not wittness anyone acting inappropriately. Coming out of the military after 20yrs to his home town, Tim felt he could trust what was being said to him. If he had known there was a process and he wasnt going to be chosen he could have rethought his retirement. He taught in the military and was good at it so to teach in his home town was considered a blessing. Talking to members of the community we found out that every applicant for this position out qualified the young man they are chosing to hire. The school board refuses to answer questions so people have the right to be upset. I believe we have to stand up and make ourselves heard in order to make the much needed changes in our community. To many people sit by and let things happen. If this community is finnally stepping up and sounding off its a good thing.

Sorry but I was present at this board meeting and you have your facts wrong. Tim Perkins was very composed. Citizens were never allowed to speak because the school board stated it was a personnel matter. No one screamed or acted hateful. People were upset but not unreasonably. This is our community and everyone has a right to know what is going on. The school board made it clear that they do not want this subject known. No one had to be escorted out and one female member of the school board even came up and appologized to Tim about the situation and admitted it was wrong. If you took the time to talk to Tim and get to know him you would realize what a nice person he is and what he is fighting for. Our school district has no hiring policy and claimed that they do not always hire based on qualifications. As for a role model for our children Tim has a great moral standing and has maintained this throughout his military career. I wish the same could be said for the retiring shop teacher Mr. Spicer. To lie about not indroducing Tim as the new shop teacher when 2 classes of students wittnessed this. If you want to point fingers you should probably start there and quit making things up.
