I didn't address Ames as I didn't see the point. Ames doesn't have a lots of things Iowa City has, you know like a law school, a med school, a pharmacy school, a writers work shop, culture, hamburg inn, the mill, a ped mall, an old capital. Each city is different, and unique, not sure just because one does and the other doesn't means either is right, or wrong. By your logic, since Bill Gates is a billionaire we all should be?

Are you aware of the difference in the demographic in Iowa City and CR, and I would say that the IC music scene is head and shoulders above that of CR, especially considering the size difference of the two communities. If you hate alcohol, just say it.

I wasn't aware that ISU doesn't play on ESPN, ESPN2, FSN, VS, or any other cable network, because if they did, they would get money from every person who gets any of those networks too.

Wasn't this entire crackdown to get those evillll 20 year old kids who were drinking? But only 12 citations for this? If they are going to start enforcing this law this year for the first time at iowa games, they need to do it across the board, not just to the folks who can't afford to pay for the prime spots and the press box seats.

I love this article, very very good. This is the stuff that makes college football unique and so great, each one of these games means so much to each team.. you might not have been the #1 team in the nation, but you won the pig... I am surprised you didn't include the bourbon barrel that was the trophy for the winner of the IU/Kentucky game.

Dude, what's your point here? It sounds like you are favoring prohibition type laws, which didn't work out so well. Perhaps teaching folks how to drink responsible is the right answer, instead of promoting binge drinking. This was a terrible event, for ALL of those involved. I feel sorry for both those above and below the dam. I don't agree with Chip's view that the Dam caused his flooding, an excess amount of rain did, but instead of trying to come digging out of the mud, he chooses to throw mud for personal gain.

As someone who spent a short stint living on the SE side of IC, the coverage the area gets is not on par with what the downtown area gets. It seems every PAULA, or fight in downtown is headline news, while the only thing that gets reported on the SE side is shootings or gang violence on page 5.

The folks down in Iowa City are determined to ruin the football games. 7 times a year these folks can't put up with something that was there before they moved there? Really, common folks, lighten up and enjoy life and stop complaining about everything.

It should rotate for sure, and it should be outdoors as much as it is indoors. The NFL plays until the first week in Jan. and their fans seem to show up.... Every state but Iowa has a suitable NFL stadium, there are lots of good choices, why tie it down to 1 place?

Yeah, folks are talking about bans, what the heck have you been smoking? There are lots of bars in CR that you can enter at age 19, I don't know about Des Moines, never tried. The difference is the people in Iowa City promote the binge drinking attitude.

Changing the "binge" drinking culture that exists in some circles at Iowa needs to be done, yes, but education about alcohol and how to drink responsible are better options then outright bans.

I am still waiting for all of those great things that were supposed to happen from the merger between IPL, IES, and WPL. It seems to me that more and more, Allaint is less of a Cedar Rapids, or even Iowa company as it is a Wisconsin company trying to fleece Iowans. Does anything else think that if IES still had their HQ in downtown CR, that the outcome of steam production would have been different after the flood of 2008? How many jobs has Alliant cut in Iowa just to have them replaced in Wisconsin? Maybe it was just me, but the high rates for electricity seemed to be offset by some of the other benefits that IES provided, but not so much with Alliant.

This sounds a lot like the beginnings of a new temperance movement similar to what brought prohibition to us. The real question is, why does the u of i hate alcohol so much?
