Early alpha footage? My apologies, I'm not sure I understand the question. I had access to the final release build and I had not been invited to the alpha. Could you please elaborate?

From gamers to game makers, it's an awesome success story, as well as a great game! Wish they were getting a little more attention, but it's a tough season for new IP's right now. Fantastic game!

Everyday Gamers : EA VS Valve: Beneath the Surface

You hit the nail on the head my friend! EA had no issues with all of this before. Note that Dragon Age DLC was available on Steam, but M*** Effect 2 DLC was not. ME@ DLC could ONLY be purchased through the EA/Bioware Social Network route for the PC version. This never caused any problems until Origin was entered into the picture. I find it very interesting that EA is extremely vocal and doing interviews and shifting blame and Valve is very quiet about the situation. My thinking? That's because Valve didn't pull the rug out from under EA and change their TOS, they've been the same for quite some time, they have no explaining to do, because they've done nothing wrong, they've just watched a valued partner make some bad decisions, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are there to pick up the pieces when EA and Origin fall flat. EDIT : Ummm......really? I can't type Mass Effect?! That's M A S S Effect for those of you thinking I may have put something sinister in there!

Everyday Gamers : Shogun 2: Total War

Haha, I wish I could, sorry bro, if I could, I would be first on that list. In all fairness tho, I played this on a laptop, at a 1366x768 res, and most in-game settings at 'Medium', and it looked gorgeous. Granted, I have an ok video card, with 1gb vram, but I don't think that makes it a gaming rig, by anyone's standards. I could have bumped the settings up, but with the massive amounts of units in battles, it would chug slightly on higher settings. Still, I don't think using a lower res and lower settings, that I missed out on anything, or that the game suffered. I think, if it's playable, like that, it only gets better, if you do have a really tricked out PC to play on.

I like the Challenge missions too, wish they would do a duel mode or something too. It sucked that you unlocked a sick amount of costumes in the first game, and there was nothing to do them in. I wish they would have more of a reason for you to get those costumes and motivation for you to use them in duels, challenges, or something other than just the campaign. I agree, they did need more fleshing out tho.

Jedi Knight was amazing, all of them. I couldn't agree more, I wish they had done the series in the Old Republic days, rather than the Lucas Trilogy timeline. They would have lost the allure and selling point of Vader's Secret Apprentice, but it would have made more sense and not blown that 'Dark Ages/dark times' theory out of the water. Not only is Starkiller waaaay too powerful, but look at so many of the enemies, how many Jedi are floating around(when they have all supposedly been exterminated), and all of the cool forces the Imperials have at their disposal----that suspiciously are absent from Episodes IV, V and VI! Strange how they have all these Dark Troppers and sick, huge carbonite spewing flamethrowing droids that never appear in those movies! They broke their own storyline---but the first was still a good game.

The end of the game, while I did not want to post any spoilers in my review, was not only ridiculous, but it left a HUGE opening that needs to be tied up before the onset of Episode IV----which the game should have continued and wrapped up, without waiting for another game in the franchise! It's a shame, while I didn't like the way the first one tied into Ep. IV, and I felt the same way about Starkiller's power completely breaking the universe, the first game was really enjoyable, despite a chugging framerate and some bugs. It had a deep story, and even revisiting worlds in the game was not at all repititous, it flowed very well. I even enjoyed the DLC missions, and thankfully PC players didn't pay extra for them. This isn't half the game the first was, even with the Challenge missions added.

I agree about Dagobah, and I COMPLETELY agree about Starkiller---he reminds me of Alma, from the FEAR series. Both characters are extremely omnipotent, and any possible way of bringing them down will only disappoint fans----not to mention, as you pointed out, all the loose ends have to be tied up because of the storyline tying into Episode IV. Meaning, that most, if not all main characters have to die, and I thought that the Kamino facility, ESPECIALLY with the story TFU2 took, was going to have to be destroyed.

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, I hear that the worst bugs are on the PC version, as I believe it was with the first game in the series. I'll be honest, I'll be posting an update soon, but I have found workable drivers that have smoothed some of the bugs out, and I still stand by my score, even with the gaming running slightly smoother.

Everyday Gamers : A Portal Into the Starcraft II Beta

I know Blizzard has gone out of their way to clarify that the Beta is NOT a snapshot of the game, but just a tool they use to tweak the MP balancing----very indicitive of the fact that they have a ton of goodies and surprises for the campaign and the extras for the game. That being said, Starcraft has always been a different experience from the C&C games, and I think this iteration will take that to a new level, I really like what I'm hearing and I can't wait for next month's release. It would also appear I am eating crow about poo-poo-ing Battle.Net 2.0, but I won't say that until I get to mess with the final product.

Everyday Gamers : "MY CONSOLE IS THE BEST!" How Fanboys Are Hurting Gamers

Ok, I don't think Eric meant that fanboys are the ONLY blight on the gaming community. Also, I think there is a big difference between someone who simply doesn't own a PS3 and someone who is a 360 fanboy. Fanboys are completely blind to the faults of their choice and the benefits of another. I think in general, no one hates their own hobby like gamers do----fanboys or not, we criticize every little thing in gaming. We gripe when a company tries something new, and we gripe when they pump out another game in the series without new features, devs and pubs always seem to be at a deficit. That being said, I agree with his article, there is definitely room for more open-mindedness in gaming. I also agree that the general non-gaming public has a poor attitude on us, I also think that the close-mindedness and fanboyism creates a barrier for entry for those of the non-gaming public who do decide to dip their toes in and test the waters.

Everyday Gamers : Good Grief: Bad Endings - Batman Arkham Asylum

Ummm, I definitely agree, but I think there's more too it. The ending didn't let me down as much as the promise of an epic game did. Three boss battles(Joker, Bane and Ivy), and a few Scarecrow sequences didn't satiate me. It is a fantastic game----but I expected more. More characters that, instead, were just writings on cell walls or Riddler trinkets to be photographed. And no, I don't necessarily consider the Croc section a boss fight---clever and well done, but not a boss fight. As great as it was, the game definitely left me disappointed.

Everyday Gamers : Living with GameStop

Nice wrap up, I like it. I always have decent experiences with employees, it's the policies and pricing that kills it for me. That and the fact that the PC section is always reduced to a corner endcap somewhere behind the cobwebs, and for most games those nifty pre-order bonuses don't even extend to the PC ports, so if I can't find the games I want and your silly bonuses don't apply, why should I shop there? Steam sales here I come! lol Nice Job Eric, really thorough and really informative.

Good review, I totally agree. This is one of my favorite games from 2009, and yet there is that ending that just makes you uncontrollably utter the Scooby-Doo 'Ruh'?!? I am witholding final judgement until I see how everything plays out in the third installment, but it is going to be a tough script to write, I can't even imagine where they will be taking the story and how they tie it all together.
