WOODTV.com : Mom: Baby left in car was \'an accident\' | WOOD TV8

Exactly! What was going on??? She breaks down in front of the mother and can't tell her the story. It makes me wonder if it was intentional. Maybe she didn't want to deal with the baby and now regrets what she did and is scared? I'd like to know what she was doing for 2 or 7 hours. Why did this happen?

Unfortunately, the story doesn't tell us much about this mother's friend, like how old she is, is she an experienced babysitter, was this the first time she was watching this baby, does she have children of her own or was she also watching other children at the time. If this baby was her only responsibility, I find it hard to believe that she forgot about it for so long. If she had a bunch of other kids to watch, I can begin to understand WHY it happened and why she didn't realize she was missing one at first. Still, that is a really long time to forget. Whatever the reason, the mother is being too forgiving. She doesn't even have the story from her "friend" yet and she is already telling her everything is OK and she still trusts her. *sigh* The mother is young and still a new mom. She has a lot to learn. Her daughter needs to be a bigger priority than her friend. I'm just glad the baby is doing OK. When I first heard this headline, my immediate fear was that the baby was dead. I was actually surprised to hear she was alive and stable. I've read other stories where the child died. It breaks my heart. Some of those other stories were of irresponsible selfish parents, like the guy who left his daughter in the car on purpose while he gambled. He checked on her, but that didn't do any good, since he still left her in the car and she died. Other stories were of normal, intelligent parents (one was a college professor) who LOVED their kids and got distracted for some reason and were forgetful and left the baby in the car. Sadly, those parents all have a lifetime of guilt to live with. When I first had my daughter, I was terrified I'd make the same mistake. I never did and now that she's older I'm confident that I never will. But yes, unfortunately, as stupid and heartless as it sounds, this does legitimately happen sometimes. The questions left in this case are: 1) How long was the baby really in the car? How does the mother know it was only 2 hrs? Did her friend tell her that? 2) WHY was the baby forgotten about? Understandable distraction? Boyfriend? Drugs? Was it intentional? 3) Is the baby going to have any long-term effects? 4) PLEASE Mom, don't be so quick to trust and forgive your friend when you don't know what really happened. Can you find someone else to watch your baby?

The mother said the babysitter was a friend. Would you get a background check on a friend that was going to watch your baby? It's a bit insulting to ask your friend to go get fingerprinted by the police so that you can decide whether or not you will trust them. If you don't know them very well, then just don't trust them with your children. If you do know them well, then you should be able to figure out if they can be trusted with your children.

WOODTV.com : Shovel your sidewalk or face fines | WOOD TV8

Yes! Thank you for bringing this up! My family will be away visiting relatives over Christmas and New Year's. We do this every year. We do not know our neighbors well and in fact, the only house that is right next to us was moved into by a new owner only days ago. "Welcome to the neighborhood! Hey, would you mind shoveling my walk for 2 weeks while I'm away?" I don't think so.

WOODTV.com : WOOD TV8 | Poll: Most parents won\'t vaccinate kids

The reason why the elderly are not the first to get vaccinated is because, according to medical reports, they have proven to be the least likely to come down with this particular flu strain. Experts have said that a similar strain was going around when that generation was young, and they seem to have a natural immunity to the current swine flu strain because of that. As others have pointed out, there is a limited number of vaccines, so why give it to the people least at risk? Give it to those who need it most. The elderly still need the regular flu shot, as they are still very vulnerable to that, but not H1N1. Read up on H1N1, you'll see that the worst hit part of the population, with the most deaths, has been the YOUNG!!

WOODTV.com : WOOD TV8 | Could GR become \'joke\' of art world?

I agree that this has been a great event for GR for many reasons. Many of the contest submissions I truly enjoyed or was impressed by. I intend to go back this week to see more of them. However, I must say that there are entries that I do not consider art. Wrapping electrical tape around a pole is not a piece of art in my opinion. It looks like somebody got bored and had a big roll of electrical tape on hand. It looks like a mess to clean up, not something artistic. Placing labels with messages on them all over the BOB is not art. Don't get me wrong - I liked it. I liked the sentiment, but it is a social experiment more relevant to the field of social psychology than a piece of artwork.
