Figmentations : Inspired Out of an Unplanned Hiatus

Thanks, Chris, for reminding me that it matters; I'm not sure why that's often so easy to forget. :) BTW, wishing you all the best in your "redrawing" (and know that I appreciate your Facebook presence, too.)

Figmentations : A Blogger’s Contemplations about Writing a Book

Thanks for your comment, Steve. And, congrats on getting the final edit on your book done. January is not that far away, sounds very exciting. And, you're right, blogging is helping me further define my area of interest, though sometimes I fear that I might be belaboring some of the same points too much. Either way, I am making more progress as I get clearer on my focus. Thanks again! Good luck with your book!

Figmentations : Two Questions To Ask Yourself Before Making A Difficult Decision

Josh, thanks so much for writing this post. Those are really great questions to ask! Also, please know that I truly appreciate how supportive you are of such a wide variety of blogs out there, including those blogs like mine with, as of yet, low traffic levels (other than when I blog about events, or so it seems). Looking forward to reading every one of your Ultra Marathon posts!

Figmentations : 8 Gatejumper Tips Heard at the Writers Digest Conference

Yes, that distinction really caught my attention, too. Finding readers is definitely the challenge. That's what I'm trying to figure out, too. At the conf., Scot & Seth described starting small with a few friends and then building it up a little at a time...that's the 3-5 yr timeframe (FYI: they used podiobooks.com to podcast their books). In Trust Agents there's even a chapter on "Building an Army" by starting a Mastermind group, collaborating with others, etc., (I've only skimmed that chapter so far.) Chris also talked about using Twitter & Search and also participating within your community. I've heard that goodreads.com is a place where people like to go to discuss and recommend books, maybe there'd be some ideas there. So, that's where I'm at. Maybe we can do some brainstorming together if you'd like?

Yes, I admit that I often take my proximity to NY for granted...I really should appreciate that more. Regarding the SXSW event, I've read a lot of good things about that one, but have never gone yet (too bad that one's not closer to you). Regarding lipreading, I didn't realize that so much is lost. You are right then that attending in person may not be as worthwhile in that case. I'm wondering if there might not be a need for a "special needs" social media event (if that's the right term to use?) . I also remember learning about Online Accessibility Standards (which is a little different, but somewhat related) back when I took a course years ago, but unfortunately I don't hear much about that anymore either. Hmmmm...

Thanks for stopping by and leaving the kind note, Seth! I really enjoyed your presentation with Scott. It's great to see that these strategies really do work. So inspiring! I look forward to approaching my non-fiction writing in different ways now. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas!

Thanks, Chris! Glad to be able to pass along the learnings to those that couldn't be there. It was great meeting you in person, too. Thanks, too, for signing my book the way you did (and for commenting here, too.)

I don't go to too many seminars, especially in the past year (actually I just started going again lately) mostly because it gets expensive after a while (especially the additional room & food charges.) For me, NYC is just a train ride away from NJ, so I'll go for a day here and there if it fits. For me, I actually prefer the online tools over face-to-face socializing, since I guess I do get shy when I don't know people. I can see how lipreading would be tricky, probably even if you got a seat close up. I'm wondering though, even if you don't catch everything, there might still be a few nuggets or contacts that make it worthwhile in other ways. You never know. Maybe some day we'll even get to meet each other at a conference. :)

Thanks for reading and for commenting, Meryl! You're right, there is also the offline world that we need to remember to add into the mix, too! Either way, knowing that there are effective non-traditional avenues to try adds a whole new life to the pursuit for me, and hopefully for others, too!

Figmentations : For Those Navigating the (Non)-Working World

@Mary, thanks for adding to my list! I\\\'ve never really used Craigslist much (though my brother-in-law always raves about the deals he gets there); I didn\\\'t realize it is useful for job searching, too. I\\\'ll definitely have to do some exploring over there. Thanks! And, yes, I love Mary Englelbreit\\\'s style, too! :)

Right now, next year's East Coast event is definitely in my plans. January might be too soon, but you never know, it all depends on how much I can try out and what results I get in the mean time. Looking forward to keeping in touch along the way! Thanks again!

Wow, small world indeed. Sure, I'd love to get together sometime. I live in the Woodbridge area and work in Parsippany. Maybe we can plan a Tweetup or something? LMK.
