It was Yom Kippue on shabat when Presidio said all jewish personnel had the weekend off. It was signed by a four star general. There was no jewish chaplain on post so I took it to a cristian chaplain and he said I should be excused. I took it to the colonel on the flight line and he said " Harrison, If i can have cristmas off you sure as hell can take sat off as well. I asked my company commander and he said okay if my platoon leader said okay. He was an arab american and said no to me. I said a four star general outranks you. He said he did not give a damn.Everyone got a two day pass except me. I went to a jewish family in Dallas for yom kippur and when I got back before everyone else I was put in chains and court martialed and kicked out of flight school. I enlisted for vietnaam service and realized i was not an american to the us army. i was just a jew.
