We usually answer using "the feel good method" or how we think our neighbors might respond not knowing the facts. With all of the hidden taxes and subtle changes such as cap n trade, expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts, probable removal of 125k & 401k medical & savings plan exclusions, removal of wage limits on social security deductions, the need for every level of government to whet its appetite by raising this and that I would challenge each person to know their facts. If there was a viable business reason for the retention bonus prior to a layoff and the bonus value can be justified that's one thing. For Congress to have just passed the Omnibus Budget with $7.7 billion in pork attached and now to be whining about $165 million in retention that Chris Dodd apparently put in the AIG bailout is quite another.
