Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 3/13 - 3/25

. “Are you better off “ (cont) Not only the breakdown of your paycheck but the utility, phone, cable, credit card, mortgage, monthly grocery cost - call me crazy but aren't you curious? Cap n Trade alone will affect 100% of the population - every baby, boy, girl, mom, pop, grandma & grandpa. 100%. I'm making my list today. Will revisit in September, March 2010, September 2010. Since many of the CHANGES being made are yet unknown the REAL answer may not be known for 2-3 years but, God willing, I will be able to give an answer.

Glenn - I am an Accountant and am always curious about the REAL numbers down in the details. We know that every so often the politicians will ask "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" We usually answer using "the feel good method" or how we think our neighbors might respond not knowing the facts. With all of the hidden taxes and subtle changes such as cap n trade, expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts, probable removal of 125k & 401k medical & savings plan exclusions, removal of wage limits on social security deductions, the need for every level of government to whet its appetite by raising this and that I would challenge each person to know their facts.

Troy - absolutely correct. The movement must stay focused with an eye on upholding the Values. There will be those whose sole purpose is to disrupt the 912 Project as dj has tried. They do it out of fear of the truth of the majority. They know that their tactics of anger, hatred and divisiveness can not withstand the strength of our Values.

Glenn - thank you for being the catalyst that is helping to wake us up, that is bringing us together, that is giving us a forum where we can see the strength in our numbers.

Pamphlets would be useful in reaching many who might not otherwise hear the msg. I agree with "DownsizeGovt" that care must be taken in the design of / statements within a pamphlet. The msg must be positive - avoid trash talk. Make the reader think - TWICE & remember the message. Using the "We Surround Them" Principles and Values that Glenn has identified would lend consistency to the movement and the msg could point out why / how the path the nation is being taken is eroding the bedrock of our country.

Congress should review the validity of the AIG Retention Bonus'. If there was a viable business reason for the retention bonus prior to a layoff and the bonus value can be justified that's one thing. For Congress to have just passed the Omnibus Budget with $7.7 billion in pork attached and now to be whining about $165 million in retention that Chris Dodd apparently put in the AIG bailout is quite another.

I like the 12 year limitation as well. I would also like to see some type of limitation on justices (20 yrs or age 75 whichever occurs first).

Changes can (and should) be made within the framework of the Constitution. No document written by man is perfect. Laws have been written and implemented then through learning (and time) been repealed or amended. Changed by the people through representation.

Agree. That is one of the inherent problems with our system of government. There may be an individual from the opposition that you like but don't dare vote for them due to the affect on the rest of the power structure. We the people are at the mercy of the elected to at least attempt to have the will of their constituants at heart when they vote on legislation.

But those in government will take the power if we the people sit on our hands and allow it. Whether for personal gain or to move us further into socialism as Mr Obama is hell bent to accomplish we must step up. Band together as a loud voice and change the power structure of Congress is priority # one.

Do we elect our representatives to be Architects of our nation? The structure was built to completion 200 years ago. What we need is competent maintenance of the grounds, the plumbing and the electrical; homeowners insurance in case of a national disaster; a strong security system to protect us from internal and external harm. The Constitution does not need to be re-written.

We the people are faced with a Catch 22 of sorts. Elected officials stay in office too long and become corrupted by the power yet without that very power they are not in a position to affect change. Wont changing the dynamic lead to the desired results? The dynamic being the strength of the political structure itself. Strength, not of the party that happens to have had a candidate who won an election, but of the people who are the owners of the structure. We the people need to wrest ownership of the political process away from career politicians.

We all know the problems that need to be solved. Congress & the Judiciary need term / age limits, a fair tax (dismantle the bloated snowball called the IRS) and the need to instill common sense. There is no common sense in Washington DC. Once in office OUR represtatives do what is in their best interest to get re-elected. Longevity breeds power & corruption. Take away the permajob and perhaps the good for the people, for the country will be back in the forefront of DC politics.
