I wonder if he's ever heard of being inconspicuous? Stealing a bright yellow truck is not the smartest thing! Testimony to how dumb criminals are!

I too am speechless and very overcome by the loss of this little girl's life and the hell she indured at the hands of her mother and step-father. I can't imagine that a little girl could cause that much anger and deserve to be treated that way and then just placed in a plastic container. How do you do that to your own child...how could they sleep at night? I agree with ladyjane about the mandated sterilization for both and obviously no contact with children in the future. Rest in peace little one.

I realize he has to live with what he's done, but give him some long, hard time to think about it in jail instead of drinking away his sorrows and driving drunk again!!! That's the reality of it! Let's get real...it's not about money and it should never be about money...it's about breaking the law and having to pay the price. These victims and their families need to know that the man who killed their loved ones is paying the price of lost freedom, just as there loved ones have lost theirs!!! Do you pay taxes??? Wouldn't you like to know that your taxes are going to keep people like this from hurting anymore people, rather than a pen that costs $500.00??? Tackle those issues and lobby for the repayment of the full cost of incarceration from the criminals. May peace be with the victims and their families and let their healing start.

Are you kidding me? Again with the money (from another debate on this issue)...who cares!!! He killed 4 innocent people who were just trying to get home. If we are talking money, how about the potential earnings that these four people could have made in their lives and the tax dollars that they would have contributed over their life span...I'm sure it would have been more than $962,302.50. I'm not sure why you are so wrapped up in the money issue...don't you care that four people lost their lives to a drunk driver? This man has to pay for his crime...again, he took four lives!!! Oh I know you think he should do community speaking against driving drunk instead of jail time because it will cost taxpayers $28,000 per year to house him according to you...what about justice (not vengance as you stated in our other debate) for the victims and their families...what justice does that bring them???

What could an 11 year old or 10 year old have possibly done in their short life to deserve this??? That's not a very valid argument. I am sensing that you must have been terribly wronged in your life and that you still feel pain. I am sorry for that...may peace be with you.

I don't think it's about vengence, it's all about feeling that someone took away my loved one and they should have to lose their freedom, their right to live as they know it, the right to drive, to go to bars, to be with family, etc.. The victims loved ones will no longer have those opportunities through no choice of their own. Matt knew he was going to drink when he entered that bar or party...he chose to go in, drink and then drive. I am sure he didn't chose to kill anyone, but it happened and now he needs to face his punishment and in this case the law allows for incarceration, fines and community service after he is released. Don't you think that's fair??? Again, I hope that you have never had to feel the pain that these four families are feeling...no one should have to.

May peace be with the victims and their families.

Nogod, I hope that this has not happened to you in the past. It's a terrible thing to have to grieve for your loved ones and to be the one left behind to deal with a terrible loss like that. I agree that jail is a place where some criminals get polished and come out worse than they started...this too should be and needs to be addressed. There should be better rehabilitation for criminals...and yes I know it costs more money to do that, but what is the alternative??? Having thieves, murderers, drunks and rapists running rampant on the streets. Jail is necessary, although not the greatest solution. But until our justice system figures out a new way to handle these people that's what we have. My mother came up with a new idea to me and that was that people who commit crimes involving drinking and driving or just driving negletiantly and causing death should have to serve time going to the accident sights and help in the clean-up or do service in the morgues. Not a bad idea . But the fact still remains that in these horrible situations, the victims and their families need tangible justice to help them to deal in their grief. What would you suggest for them?

Also, if we are that worried about tax payers money going to house this criminal how about we lobby for all the criminals to have to repay for their incarceration time? Sounds good to me! Maybe this burden should be put on his family the way that he has burdened the families of the victims? It's not about money, it's about giving the families some peace of mind that somehow this man has to pay for what he did. I believe that in the end karma will come around for this guy but that may not be quick enough for the grieving families...let's let them have their justice!!!

May peace be with the victims and families.

In response to nogod...I definetly agree there is no formal punishment that fits this type of crime, but I would rather a reckless person like this spend time in bars and have his freedoms taken away than for him to be out drinking and driving again and kill more people (did you not see his myspace page???)...what if this happened to someone you loved...would your view still be the same? I would definetly want justice and if prison is what the law allows in this case than that is what he should get. In my opinion it should not be about tax dollars or money it's about giving the victims and their families justice. They didn't ask for this pain and they need some sort of tangible justice! I personally would rather have my tax money go to keeping people like this off the streets (he killed 4 people and sent a 5th to the hospital with life threatening injuries, not to mention he has scarred the lives of their families!), to keep my family and friends safe rather than have it go to welfare seeking drug addicts! Lets keep our streets safe and hope for rehabilitation for people who commit these acts!

Yes the law was broken by serving him way passed his limit...but ultimately he is responsible for what he did...he made the choice to go out and party and then drive...he should have taken a cab to and from whereever he was drinking. It is a conscious choice that you make when you drive away from your house and know that you are going to the bar for drinks or to a friends house to drink...take a cab!!! If you can afford to be out drinking, you can afford the cab ride or the bus or call a friend who hasn't been drinking...he made the choice not to do any of these things and four people are gone because of his reckless and poor choice. Shame on him and yes, shame on whoever served him but ulitmately he is responsible!

Peace be with the families and friends of the victims.
