These cameras are a spotty, haphazard way for the city leaders to get a "feel good" feeling that traffic laws are being enforced.

And arguably, MOST traffic accidents take place on residential streets and in parking lots where speed limits aren't enforced. They ARE enforced only on freeways that can handle increased speeds. NOTICE how none of these speed cameras are placed in residential areas.

A lesson should be learned from bigger cities, like Chicago, that increased speeds on freeways and where drivers must drive speeds with traffic, that there is no spike in traffic accident rates. A lesson not learned in Cedar Rapids.

Yes if convicted Rangel and Waters should resign or be booted out of Congress. Absent being convicted, there is little any one can do.

And yes if they are guilty, they should as you say resign. If guilty and they try to retain their office, then this is a testament to their character or lack thereof. I am NOT defending Rangel or Waters. But you seem to be saying that there is a COMMON CHARACTER FLAW to ALL Democratic politicians: THAT ALL DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS ARE BY NATURE CORRUPT AND WOULD NOT DO THE RIGHT THING (RESIGN) IF FOUND GUILTY OF SOME CRIME. This goes way too far. It is guilt by association and simply not true. As with all professions, there are ethical persons and unethical persons. And a predisposition to either side is NOT correlated to political affiliation.

You righties keep quoting Pelosi in your attempt to paint democrats as liars and hypocrites...guilt by association. But Pelosi has no power to control the personal decisions made by Rangel and Waters and others, similar to how Republican leaders can not control bad unethical personal decisions made by their subordinates. Unethical Congressmen aren't driven to being unethical because of their political beliefs, but because they are unethical individuals to begin with. Regardless of party.

And I don't think any democrat thinks they are "better" than Republicans. We disagree with Republicans on ISSUES. And yes we think we have better solutions to problems. You can't condemn a political ideology (like you are trying to do here) because of the action of a handful of unethical individuals.

Are you implying that Republican politicians are free from scandal?!

QUOTE: "At least when Republican scandals are exposed they do the right thing and resign. "

>> What a cop out! Spitzer resigned.

Ken,

You are a hypocrite. If you think Democratic politicians have a monopoly on shady dealings try doing some research on the internet. Google: Republican politician scandal.

Shame on the American public if they find the only solution this Fall to deal with America's issues is to vote Republicans in office. The Republican Party is devoid of solutions offers nothing but more of the same 2000-2008 policies that led to the current state of the economy.

As a Christian and a Progressive, my issue with organized religion is the political far right stance most Protestant churches now take. In many of these churches in 2008, the rallying cry was vote McCain/Palin.

Yes, the Boyson Rd entrance ramp planting looks great!

Every year, the Iowa DNR and the State Nursery offer tree and shrub seedlings in bulk quantities at relatively inexpensive prices. Maybe the CR city council should consider that as a source for nursery stock.
