But if the university is indeed a business, its customers are the students (and their parents), correct? In-state students have seen a 61 percent increase in the cost of their tuition since he became CEO of the "business." Cost of the product has increased dramatically; the value of the product -- i.e. CU's national academic ranking -- has remained stagnant. A state university should provide opportunity for students from that state to obtain a relatively inexpensive, quality education. That is not the case at CU. How can this be deemed "success"? Any story judging the performance of a university president that does not include the basic economics of tuition costs during his/her tenure is incomplete. For Zac Robinson to have turned down CU because of Cody Hawkins means he would have had to have known in February 2005 that: a) Barnett was going to be fired in December 2005. b) Boise State coach Dan Hawkins was going to be named CU's new coach. c) Cody Hawkins (then a junior in high school in Boise) was going to follow his dad to CU.
