Daily Camera.com: : David Barnett, professor at center of termination battle, seeks $2M from CU-Boulder - Boulder Daily

Well ... not saying this guy has a case, but there is precedent for another guy named Barnett getting a nice chunk of change from the university on his way out the door.

Daily Camera.com: : From the oil fields to the presidential office, CU\'s Bruce Benson shows staying power - Boulder Dai

Benson has increased donations and grants. His supporters use those numbers to bolster their claim that he has been a success, basing their assessments on "business" models. But if the university is indeed a business, its customers are the students (and their parents), correct? In-state students have seen a 61 percent increase in the cost of their tuition since he became CEO of the "business." Cost of the product has increased dramatically; the value of the product -- i.e. CU's national academic ranking -- has remained stagnant. A state university should provide opportunity for students from that state to obtain a relatively inexpensive, quality education. That is not the case at CU. How can this be deemed "success"? Any story judging the performance of a university president that does not include the basic economics of tuition costs during his/her tenure is incomplete. This was a press release, not a comprehensive analysis of the Benson era.

Daily Camera.com: : Yo, Dark Horse fans: We\'ve got a beef with you! - Boulder Daily Camera

I seldom check into the Camera after leaving Boulder years ago, but a colleague sent me the link. First impression: sad. If I remember correctly, the Dark Horse was a faithful advertiser in the Camera. The Camera has rewarded that loyalty with a swift kick to the groin by a mouthy journo wanna-be who is seeking attention. "Look at me, look at me, I picked on the Dark Horse!" The Camera will reap short-term benefits via website hits, but the long-term damage will be much greater, as I'm guessing the Dark Horse owner will quickly pull advertising (and suffer no ill effects). This is simply the latest example of what was once a very good newspaper slipping ever deeper into the morass of irrelevance.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Ringo: College football is all about business, tradition - Buffzone

Ringo got it half right. It's about business. Tradition is little more than sentiment, a self-indulgent clinging to the past. Performance is the only standard. Get over it.

Daily Camera.com: : Falling behind:Report illuminates unsettling trends - Boulder Daily Camera

We can also support our community by conducting an honest dialogue about illegal immigration and its effects. But Camera liberals don't have the guts for that. They'd rather spew empty platitudes than actually address an issue; then blame others for being obstructionist when problems aren't resolved. It's the new politic.

Daily Camera.com: : Letters to the Editor - Oct. 14 - Boulder Daily Camera

Siff's only goal is to put money in his pocket. When Ironman bought the races from him, they said one of the first things they would do would be to add more medical support personnel on the course. Siff cut back on support to put more money in his pocket (and put those of us competing more at risk). If he wants a convention center, it's because he'll have connections with the conventions and line his pockets.

A telling point on Siff. According to the Camera, Ironman said one of the first things it would do with the triathlons they bought from him would be to add medical staff to the course. Translation: Siff went el cheapo on support staff. More money for him, less safety for those of us on the course. Yeah, he cares.

"Rumor" has it that Zac Robinson chose Oklahoma State over CU because of Cody Hawkins? Rumor has it that Clay Evans' "sources" are crap. Zac Robinson was a freshman at Oklahoma State in 2005, Gary Barnett's last year at Colorado. Zac Robinson signed a letter of intent with OSU in February 2005. For Zac Robinson to have turned down CU because of Cody Hawkins means he would have had to have known in February 2005 that: a) Barnett was going to be fired in December 2005. b) Boise State coach Dan Hawkins was going to be named CU's new coach. c) Cody Hawkins (then a junior in high school in Boise) was going to follow his dad to CU. Zac Robinson is indeed a talented young man, but surely you are not going to add the powers of foretelling the future to his repertoire. Clay Evans has passed off "rumor" as fact in order to bolster his opinion. Now it's on the Internet, where his "fact" that is patently false will live in perpetuity. A shoddy, shoddy piece of journalism. Is that what we can expect from Mr. Evans with his new Longmont adventure? That's a damaging perception that will haunt his credibility for at least another season!
