I just don't get sick of that voice, I guess. Or maybe I just don't read enough YA to get sick of it?
You should definitely read Unbroken. It is sad sad sad, but really good.
I really loved Stiff, but I think I need to read one more Roach to really form an opinion of the overall work.
I admit that most of the good stuff is available in print as well. But I think that the internet provides an excellent opportunity to practice critical thinking, if you approach it with the desire to acquire genuine knowledge and not just distraction.
I fall asleep sometimes and drop the books in the water. But, I just figure that I bought the book to enjoy the experience of reading it, and so I've just sacrificed one for the cause. I don't read other people's books or library books near water:)
I miss having annotations in my books, but I don't miss making them. It takes longer to read, and makes it harder to enjoy the experience, but much easier to recollect your thoughts at the end.
I really like your thoughts about libraries. Reading another hopper's post, she said that it can sound elitist to say that everyone should read literature, and I totally get what she is saying. However, I also think that public libraries and the wonderful people who run them, and drive bookmobiles, and try to get books into the hands of everyone, help make reading books available to many many people. Probably more people than can have access to the internet or television. And I know that I want to live in a literate society, and I want everyone to have access to the knowledge in books. Sorry, about my mini rant in your comments:) Loved the post.
I'm jealous of people who commute because of the great reading time. My drive to work doesn't even let me listen to enough of an audiobook to start really listening, if that makes sense.
Did you by any chance see the Hoarders with the book hoarders this week? I saw a possible future there that I must avoid.
I'm impressed that you can read late at night. Even when I was in college, I never could. I fall asleep so easily, I can barely watch television late at night!
This book is so moving, and so good, and I think people should read it too. Just thought I'd back that up.
Thanks. Reading this reminded me that half of what keeps me reading is when I think I've guessed what is going to happen. I'm kind of just waiting to see if I'm right.
