this is spectacular. the overwhelming support of lowering the legal age BACK to 18 that is. really. i'm 57 and the hypocracy of "them" is appalling. when i was 18 the legal age was 19. until July of the following year when it changed to 18. I could vote for President etc when i was 18, i could have been (but thankfully was not) drafted when i was 18, but even after the law was lowered to 19, couldn't legally buy a beer. yes, it's true that irresponsible alcohol use causes problems. i know people my own age whose behavior could be the reason tht the drinking age should be 65. or 90. so ... the legal age should be 18 and the responsibilities of an adult should be 18 as well. and young people should be educated as to what those responsibilities are.

Big Government : Obama Nation: Listen to Your Betters

a caricature is supposed to exaggerate a person's physical characteristics, not make them up. might we call Breitbart- "not so bright Bart" instead? of course he belongs with the likes of Glen Dreck and Caribou Barbie. let them wallow in their bigotry and ignorance, eventually it will smother them.

KCRG : Chicago Cubs Legend Ron Santo Dies At Age 70 | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weath

well said indeed. i suppose i saw Hodges and Santo both play when my folks took me to a Cubs Dodgers game at Wrigley in 1963 but i was too young to remember anything except that Don Drysdale pitched and the Dodgers won. over the years as my Cub fanness grew i came to appreciate Santo as an announcer and all time great Cub fan. He was much more than that i understand. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

Last weekend i was elated; this Saturday i'm relieved, barely. Iowa's next opponant, Northwestern, is in the process of blowing a 21 point lead. Despite a 7 point lead at the moment they are poised to become JoPa's 400th victim. But, just like the Hoosiers, the Wildcats are NOT cupcakes. The Hawkeyes have to be better prepared next weekend. It's the warm up game for oHIo St. for that game Iowa needs to be RED HOT! GO HAWKS!

and apparently absence makes the memory fade. anyone who thinks Iowa's "good ol' days" were during Bumstead's previous tenure must have been asleep the whole time. I wasn't asleep, I was there. it was awful. Good luck to my native state and Go Hawks.
GazetteOnline.com : Public schools have few problems with student dress codes

as a graduate of the late LaSalle HS in CR where uniforms we de rigueur for the young ladies and collared shirts and slacks (not jeans-the devil's pants) were required for the young men i must say everybody i went to school with during my four years there survived the dress code. as to the issue of an employer "forcing" you to buy a "branded shirt" yes they can. i've been in route sales for 22 years and have been required to wear "approved" uniform shirts and slacks the entire time. in the case of the last 13 years it has been an union environment and the employer has been required to split the cost. The other job (non union) we were charged a reletively nominal fee for shirts and slacks from a uniform company, not much more thn it would have cost us to wash then (which the uni co. did.)

GazetteOnline.com : Alcohol and sports unfortunate partners

once again we have the "a few people spoil it for everybody" school of thought going on. that sort of thinking made no sense to me when i was a kid in parochial school and four plus decades on it still strikes me as narrow minded. Bad behavior is bad behavior be it alchohol fueled or simply because some people are jerks. focus on the problem people and don't let them in, or throw them out. During a disasterous (for the Hawks) night game at Kinnick agains the Hurricanes a while back a drunk guy got thrown out for running on the field and tackling the Miami mascot. my friends and i EACH brought in a pint of peppermint and a couple of beers. we were pretty well lit by the time the MuSCO lights went dark in the 2nd half. after the game one of our non drinking neighbors commented that if everyone behaved as well as we had after drinking what to her was "a lot" she'd have no objection to alchohol in the stadium. so, go after the jerks and leave every one else alone.

1:40 AM on a Saturday, that could lead to a lot of speculation. maybe coming home from a late job? and dozed at an inopportune time? could be. easily as much as the more lurid possibilities. reserve judgement 'til the facts come out. even then (assuming the worst) this is still a tradgedy.
