It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Israel is the ONLY country in the entire middle east that is actually a democracy with silly things like freedom of speech (those israeli's are always disagreeing with each other out loud), women's rights(females dont even need to ask permission to drive a car)-just one freedom after another. De Blasio's statements and strong support are obviously a strong recognition of the fact that Israel is the only democracy in the region and this country has a strong kinship to this tiny little land surrounded by countries that essentially keep people in straight jackets and where a women is nothing more than in effect a slave to men. maybe one day they will emerge from the stone age and females will be able to walk down the street as they please without being humiliated to cover up there entire body as if it's an embarassment to them and allowed to seek education to better themselves and where freedom will prevail for all. These are the reasons his statements were so strong and why he knows that in this country we all have a responsibility to Israel.

The entire Jewish community from Israel to the USA and beyond made a fatal error: Instead of debating and skepticzing ( a new word), being critical, unwelcoming, and even rejecting, they should have welcomed with full and open arms and glee and love any genilel who married a jew and the entire family. They wld have gained possibly another jew ( mother or father) and the children of the marriage. Even reformed temples foolishly rejected or half heartedly( the wealthy temple of lawrence LI is just 1 small example from many years ago) accepted such "diverse families". Well, the jews got what they deserved- diminshed commitment from interfaith families, families that are less committed to Judaism, children of interfaith couples that are less interested in Judaism because they were essentially not fully welcomed, etc etc etc. So the Jewish community got and is getting what it deserved- a poker. Nothing like shooting yourself in the foot. Of course, jews have survived for thousands of years, but there numbers wld be much stronger and greater if there weren't such internal stupidity!
Eventually, there will be yet another catastrophic war worse ww2 in the middle east and all over a tiny little section of territory. One side won't recognize the other's right to even exist and the other side wont give up their territory for various reasons.This coupled with the fact that many countries such as Iran for example really dont want Israel to exist any more ( and the United States also as their former president has stated directly) makes for a what you might call a volatile situation(understatement). Some people thought Ronald Reagan was a little nuts when he said the world wuold end in a cataclysmic holocaust---well maybe not !

After all- it does seem israel is an apartheid anti-human rights state according to the new word around town. Lets have all the muslim / arab states like iran, saudia, yemen, iraq,the uae, and a new palestinian state, etc etc thrive and take over the entire middle east. After all all these states have a sterling and top notch human rights record treating women, gays, dissidents, and people of all religions with dignity and full loving open arms.
