If cycling is such a good deal, then why don't you give it a shot? This is a sad and tired argument. Most of us own vehicles and it is the 2+ ton vehicles that do damage to the road. Not the 150lb bike and rider. Additionally, have you even looked at where most of the money comes from to maintain roads? It's not a gas tax or the tabs you're so concerned about. Edit: Instead of just giving me a thumbs down, would you care to elaborate why? Is it just because you disagree with me or do you favor the OPs sensationalism?

I know you're trolling now, but it's sad that one fellow human being has even trained him/herself to do this to another human being. Who cares about their mode of transport? To inflict bodily injury, or even death, to someone just because they don't agree with your lifestyle is beyond childish.

1) Juanita Drive does not have a bike lane. It does offer a shoulder, however, there are parts of it that are very narrow and do have hazards to cyclists 2) Bike lanes aren't necessarily the safest to be in. Take 2nd Ave in downtown Seattle for example. You have parked cars to the left with passengers who open doors without looking first, you have cars who are trying to make left turns on to the cross street and have to merge into the bike lane, and then you have cars trying to make left turns on red onto 2nd Ave who are only looking for traffic and not cyclists. Cyclists are allowed to take a lane of traffic if it is safer. Additionally, while I realize this is not the case on Juanita Drive, cyclists can take an entire lane if there are multiple lanes of traffic in the same direction without concern about "slowing traffic"

Except that AynRandNow said that there's been ZERO mass murder attacks by Christians... He/She didn't specify a time-frame. Additionally, why does it matter if a particular event involved religion? McVeigh, a US born citizen, bombed a US building killing hundreds. Oh wait, he was an EXTREMIST. I'm not saying he was a religious extremist, but he had very strong beliefs against the US government. It doesn't take religion to do that.

The mass media has made it extremely easy to point out one particular group and label them a terrorist and the government plays on this. It's easy to play on someone's fears to control people.

Oh, and let's not forget the Oklahoma City bombing, either. Timothy McVeigh wasn't Muslim, but rather raised Catholic and also served in our armed forces. One thing in common with McVeigh and Mohamud was that they were both extremists.

One can quote other religious books with similar quotes. Your argument works against you. Example: "...Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt..." Deuteronomy 13:13-19 This quote is in reference to one person in a town not believing in God. Let's just kill them all, then. This has nothing to do with being a Muslim, but rather extremists. They exist in all religious factions and those who feel strongly for/against something - such as those who bomb abortion clinics.

While I applaud the unions for standing up, they are doing so for their own employees, not for the passengers. If you read any of their letters, they want the TSA to have separate lines for employees that skip most of the security checks we go through. They do not want their employees to be visibly patted down if they opt-out, but that will create additional delays. Don't go thinking a corporation has the interests of its customers.

The TSA is a security show to make people believe they are making flying safer. They are purposely making the opt-out as embarrassing as possible so they force people to use these back-scatter scanners that invade our privacy even further - the same privacy and freedoms that are supposedly currently being fought for. Clearly the TSA is doing its job well: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2008/...

I already stated that I don't agree with the solution, but the city needs to move forward on the project. And no, I do not. I suppose I'm a little more understanding of the fact that I live in a diverse city and it's impossible to please everyone. There are things that the city has done that I don't agree with and so be it. At least they're making a decision instead of sitting on their asses trying to please 100% of the population - because that's impossible. And for the record, I enjoy our fancy libraries.

Read: http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/docs/StoneW... Of course, it's a study by the city government, so take it as you will. So, you'd rather sacrifice safety over getting to your destination about 5 minutes faster? All I'm seeing here is "me me me," this is making MY trip longer, this is an inconvenience to ME, all without thinking of the benefits to those who live in the neighborhood. I actually enjoy people whizzing down the street at 45mph versus the legal speedlimit, but then again, I'm in your way of getting to your destination faster. My bad.

Boston St isn't a road diet by a long shot, but I'll agree with you on this one that I don't understand the reasoning behind adding the bike lanes. It was fine before and it's no where close to being a highly utilized road for bicycle travel, unlike Dexter Ave. I am, however, a fan of the planned bike lane going up Taylor/5th Ave.

Tell me how much the road diets and bike boxes have actually affected your commute via your car? With the road diets, capacity of the roads might have gone down, but the volume of traffic it can handle has not changed mainly because there were existing bottle necks prior to the road diets (think of the Fremont Bridge and 15th Ave bridge). I have yet to see traffic come to a halt like everyone against it claimed would happen. I have yet to see businesses crumble because they couldn't get their freight trucks through that corridor. It seems just fine with one less lane in each direction and now it's safer for bikes, pedestrians, and motorists alike. Parking on the street is still ultimately cheaper downtown than it is going to a parking lot. However, why do people choose to park in a lot versus on the street today at $2/hr? Lots are always full because it's easier to find an empty spot there than it is to drive around the block 6 times. People will pay for convenience. Changing the hourly rate from $2 to $4 is not going to have a huge impact at all. The tunnel, while I don't agree with it as a solution, is not changing much. There are very few exits downtown as it is now (two N-bound and one S-bound) and soon people will have to get off a few blocks sooner. Most traffic on 99 bypasses the city anyway. Don't complain about the tunnel only being 2 lanes in each direction - that already exists in the Battery St. tunnel and traffic flows just fine. You're right. The city doesn't want anyone coming in to town which is why they're trying to improve the corridor and reconnect streets that have been bisected by 99. You're right that the 5 street intersection at the Mercer St I-5 on/off ramp is the best designed intersection and doesn't need to be changed.

Everyone here is commenting on why it shouldn't take 3 years to complete. Have any one of you actually checked out what is happening? It's more than just resurfacing the streets. I'm no engineer and have no idea how long it should actually take, but this seems like more of a give and take with the planned project. You can make it a longer project so WSDOT can make the changes with the least amount of disruption to traffic, or they could close all the streets for a year. They can't win - it's going to be a disruption regardless, but at least it isn't completely closing off the entire corridor. If you don't like the temporary street closures, find another route! 1) They're connecting streets; there will be at least 3 new over/under passes over 99 providing better connectivity for pedestrians and motorists 2) They need to widen the current Mercer St tunnel, this is not an overnight project 3) It looks like they are going to close the Broad St Tunnel for the two points listed above 4) All of the underground infrastructure that needs to be moved, fixed, updated, etc. I'd rather them take 3 years on this project with some minor disruptions versus closing down the entire section and basically rendering the entire South Lake Union neighborhood useless for 1+ years. It's a give and take, but everyone here just wants wants wants.. me me me.
