I so agree, this is also one of my favorite Bradbury stories. I fell in love with his work decades ago, there was such a lyrical quality to his style of writing. He painted such vivid pictures in my head and took me to so many breathtaking places.

Thank you, Mr. Bradbury, for sharing your visions with us. You will be greatly missed.

It clearly states on your Kohls receipt when Kohls Cash is used as part of the purchase. Also, from the Kohls website:

Kohl's Cash® Return Guidelines:
How will returning an item that EARNED KOHLS CASH impact my refund? You can get a Merchandise Credit and it won't affect the value of your Kohl's Cash Coupon. Or you can get a refund in the form of your original payment but we may have to decrease the value of your Kohl's Cash Coupon.
How will returning an item PURCHASED WITH KOHLS CASH impact my refund? You can get a Merchandise Credit. Or you can get a refund minus the amount of the Kohl's Cash Coupon.

So Kohls Cash is considered a "coupon" and they deduct the amount from a refund if you use Kohls Cash to pay for your purchase. However, I understand the policy to say if you "earned" Kohls Cash (but did not use it for your purchase) you "can get a refund in the form of your original payment." Clearly, this policy was not utilized at the time I requested a refund.

When Kohls offers Kohls Cash, it is usually in conjunction with a sale. For every $50 you spend at the sale you "earn" Kohls Cash in the amount of either $10 or $15. This is basically a coupon that entitles you to $10 or $15 off your total purchase AT A FUTURE DATE, with the dates the coupon is valid printed directly on the Kohls Cash. You can't use it on the date you receive it. It's not a rebate, it's not money, it's not good at any other store, it's simply a coupon for cash off a FUTURE purchase at Kohls. The pants I had purchased had been "on sale," and I paid a "sale" price, and did not use any Kohls Cash for that purchase. My receipt reflected the regular price, the sale price, my total savings, and how much I paid. Even with the sale prices, I had still paid $70. And yet their cash register in customer service was programmed to automatically deduct $15 from my refund (and every other customer's refund) for a total refund of $55, even though I had paid $70, saying it was related to the Kohls Cash which I did not use and which wasn't even valid on the date of purchase.

Kohls lost my business because of their return policy. I returned some pants that I had bought for my husband, still folded, with all original tags and with the original receipt. I had paid a sale price, which was noted on the receipt, and received Kohls Cash for use at a future date. However, the refund Kohls offered was $15 less than I had actually paid, and they said the deduction was related to the Kohls Cash, which I didn't even use for the purchase. I argued with a manager for about 30 minutes because I wasn't going to let them get away with that. I pointed out that my credit card company was charging me the full amount because that was how much I actually spent. My persistence finally got through to him, but when he tried to refund the full amount, the cash register was programmed to automatically deduct $15 from EVERY refund, and he couldn't override it. He finally had to do the refund in cash. Can you imagine how much they are taking from customers with this scam? Is this even legal? I have not been back since.

I am a dog lover and could never imagine hurting ANY animal. That said, I have never understood the cat people practice of acquiring a pet and then turning it loose on the neighborhood. Our neighbors used to have a very alpha male cat who roamed. We had poopy flower beds and actually had to turn one into a cement patio because of the stench. He clawed and bit a neighbor's grandchild. While I was taking groceries into the house he jumped into the back of my car and started licking my food, gross. And he really messed up our boat, a very nice Bayliner that we kept covered, but he squeezed in and peed, pooped and barfed in our boat and tore up the leather dash, which we had to replace. He would also come into our garage any time the door was open, which was a problem after we had our show car custom painted. We had to buy a huge net to cover the opening to keep him out. Cat people, please have some consideration for your neighbors, none of this stuff is okay and it shouldn't be my problem.

Such a shame that some people are so quick to criticize and make accusations without any personal experience or knowing all the facts. All I can address is my own personal experience with the GET, which has been excellent. As I mentioned, we started buying GET units when our daughter was in 3rd grade. Here we are 9 years later, she is just finishing her 3rd year of college and we have not needed to pay an additional penny towards tuition. The GET has automatically adjusted for tuition increases without charging us any additional fees. Not only that, but thanks to the GET we have not had to apply for any financial aid, so our daughter will graduate debt-free. Maybe you see corruption everywhere you look, but the GET has worked extremely well for us.

Good for you! It's not easy to maintain the discipline to save. Why not look into the GET Program (Guaranteed Education Tuition) at get.wa.gov. With this program you "buy" units of college tuition at today's price, with 100 units equaling one year of tuition. Anyone can buy these units for your child - grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends. The purchase price per unit is recalculated annually. You can buy up to five years of GET units, which I recommend, as they can be used for tuition, extra university fees, textbooks, on-campus housing, anything that is related to the college education. We started buying units the first year the GET was available, when our daughter was in 3rd grade, and now she's finishing her junior year of college. All we have to do is log onto the GET website, request the amount due per quarter, and the GET pays the university directly. So simple, we've never had a mistake or problem, and we're protected from tuition increases. But books and housing add up super fast, so consider buying that 5th year of tuition. Good luck!

"Just doesn't seem fair." Seriously? Are you KIDDING me? Why don't you talk to any one of his many victims and ask them how "fair" it was for him to break into their homes or businesses, steal from them and destroy their property? Why should this kid be given more rights or privileges than his victims? There was no good reason for him to commit the crimes he committed, no one forced him to do what he did. It's way past time for him to face the consequences of his actions. As I mentioned in an earlier post, let him sell his story - BUT ensure that every single penny from all sales of his story go into a victim's fund to pay back restitution, and if anything is left over afterwards, allocate that money for a general state victim's fund. His legal fees absolutely should be his own responsibility. If he's too broke to afford a high profile attorney he can use a public defender. But he should not be rewarded for his crimes, he and his family -- who encouraged him and prasied him and possibly aided him - should not receive any money from any sales of his story. Quit crying about what's"fair" for Colton.

I think everyone is in agreement that Colton and his family should never see a single penny of monetary gain from the crimes he committed. However, he has numerous victims who DO deserve compensation for the many losses he caused them. Unfortunately for them, neither Colton nor his family have any money to pay. So why not establish a Colton Harris-Moore Victims Fund, and all profits from any articles, books, interviews, or movies will be deposited into this fund and paid by the fund to every one of his victims. Once they have all been fully compensated for their losses, then any monies left in the fund could be utilized as a general State of Washington Victims Fund. Colton should be on his own for his legal fees.
