The EMT crew freaked out my family with the C collar, back board, etc, etc. I could hear the emergency room nurse talking to my family who at this point thought they screwed up with the home variety transport. She said it was OK and everything they were doing was defensive precautions since I had already had CAT scans, X-Rays, etc, etc. Family was following the ambulance and got separated in traffic but arrived at the 2nd hospital 21 miles away before the ambulance (no lights or sirens). Cost of 1st transport $1.25 (8 miles), cost of 2nd transport $1200 (21 miles). 1st Hospital bill was $8500 but when I told them I was self insured the bill dropped to $1900 which I paid. 2nd hospital, for 24 hrs of care, which put me in ICU when it was not needed but that was "the only room" they had. At first the bill was $18,600 dollars. Which included retaking the same tests the 1st hospital did. But if I did not pay within 6 months the price would jump to $32,000. This does not include the bills from the three doctors at the 2nd hospital. I paid all the doctors first and their fees were completely reasonable. I paid the ambulance last. The hospital and I went round and round on the bill. They would not budge. They got nothing and I don't feel bad about it since the week before I went into the same hospital a van load of illegals running from the cops were taken their after crashing their van. They did not pay a single cent so why should I as a tax payer pay anything. I have always paid my bills but this experience really opened my eyes to other side of the medical business. They have already sold to debt to some parasite lawyers and I tell them the same thing. They try to scare you will the credit score threat, yada, yada, yada. I tell them I don't care since I pay cash for almost everything. I tell them I will pay $13000 of the bill they will send me an invoice showing the settlement of the total is $13000. Nothing to do with SB1070 since the police did not actually run the check but had BP do it. The police can ask any question they want, the person does not have to answer. But if driving a car the operator does have to present a valid drivers license and proof of insurance when requested by the police. That goes for everyone. When I travel in Europe I always have my Passport and US drivers license. You really think some French, German, Belgium, British or Swiss police are going to take a CA, AZ, TX or any other US state drivers license as a positive ID over a Passport?
