I deleted your first comment, because I believe that Guateliving is not place to converse (positively or negatively) about my dad's legal status. There are other sites where anyone can say whatever they want about my dad, but I don't want it here. I hope that you can understand that. Thank you.

Guate Living : Tax Hazards of a US Passport

Paty there are millions of Americans with dual citizenship. My own daughter, for example, is a dual citizen by virtue of her birth here and her natural born US citizen parents. And I expect to gain a Guatemalan passport through her. But the point is that by virtue of her birth, the subject in the above article can't lose her citizenship just by getting another passport. She would have to renounce it formally in front of a consular official. Here's an article that discusses this: http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizensh...

Paty, she was born in the US so she can't "lose" her citizenship. The only way she could get rid of it would be a formal renunciation in front of a embassy representative, and that wouldn't resolve any tax problem she has.

Guate Living : GringoWin in San Pedro

El Gordo, I didn't realize that to refer to the Indians as Indian was offensive. I use to call them 'Mayan', and yes, it was Santiago who told me to stop "because they're not Mayan, perhaps their ancestors were 500 years ago...". If 'indigenous' is PC and indian is not, I'll keep that in mind. I guess it's the same in the US, the folks my grandparents called 'colored' (and they weren't racists in any way), now want to be called African American, even though when I grew up 'black' was perfectly acceptable.
