What a considered reply. Perhaps a compromise could be reached by adopting the French method where I understand that if an employee is with a firm for more than thirteen weeks they must then be given a contract of employment

Perhaps your knowledge of the present job market is a little outdated. The young and ambitious have a hard time getting a job or even an interview - unlike those in the Fifties, which I remember well.

I find one part of the Labour Party manifesto very attractive and would like a similar promise in the Conservative manifesto and that is the abolition of zero hour contracts and unpaid internships unless special dispensation is sought.
