Sam changed my views on the war a lot when we started to watch the videos in class on tuesday. We talked a lot about the oil situation in Iraq and weather or not we went over there to turn their country into a democracy or did we go over there for the oil. In my personal opinion I can really see our country trying to scheme something up to go into a 3rd world country and act like a bully and take their main supply of money and use it as one of our recourses that we really need. If this is true then this is not only taking over a country and covering up what we are really doing in that country and we are also stealing we are not even ask them for any of their oil we are covering up that we are there for another reason and just stealing it. Its not fair at all either way what were doing over there, we don't treat the citizens with any respect and from the vidoes of the soldiers they act like its some form of superior dominited another into fallowing them and living by their rules. The videos we watched only make me imagine what really goes on over there all day every day. If it is true that we are over their just for their oil then we should have no reasons to treat their citizens the way we do now over there. We are trying to build their country up again after what we have already done to them, and we are only doing it to them for the oil. I think that the USA is a country that has a lot of power and uses it to its advantage. In the biginning I did't pay to much attention to the war because I felt we were being attacked by their terrorist so I thought we were going over their for the right reason. Then I started to realize that America has a weak oil supply in soc. American only has about 520 gallons of oil and thats not enough to last us for that long at all. Then Iraq does have the most oil supply in the world, and it would only make sense that we are over their for that reason. Now I am starting to finally understand what is really going on over there. By how our soldiers are acting by the videos I have seen I dont approve of any of that so I dont support the war in Iraq even if we do end up rebuilding their country, we are sifening their oil at the same time and thats their only recourse that anyone will buy so either way if we are rebuilding their country it doesnt matter because we are taking their main way of supporting their country anyway. In the end I understood in the biginning what we were doing over their and I wanted to justtify what happened on september 11th but now i really see who are terrorising every day their citizens and it need to change. Their oil is their oil and we should nt be in that country for that reason.
I have learned a bunch of lessons from dealing with those whole scandle here at Penn State. Coming from the student perspective I really think that what has happened in the past 2 weeks have been really sad. All of the people that are in charge of our university are being shown-up as really being fraud in lying about a huge case just to save face of the university for a longer time. Penn State officials are suppose to be leading us in so many different ways that its disgusting and sad that to see now how false they are acting and disgracing this university. The lessons that they should have learned in all of this are hard to pick apart in this case. For our superiors at Penn State I think they have learned that any crime that is caused of that magnitude no matter who it is, is always suppose to be delt with by the police. This case is so big that Penn State officials should have known that keeping it quite was never a good idea in the first place. Lessons that I have learned as a student are that trust and honorship are a big credibility to have in this society. I believe that what led to the huge scandel was Penn State officials that have too big of egos that believe that the universities face is a bigger deal then what the actual crime was. They are being delt with pretty harsh now and that goes to show everyone else that lying to safe face of a university will never work. Its bad enough that they try to teach all the students that go to Penn State about more integrity while during these last 2 weeks all it has been about is Penn State officials not having moral integrity but instead trying to safe face of a university to protect a seriously sick person. you can't justify what Jerry Sandusky has done to ruin Penn State and the face of the university he brought a lot of people down with him too. Its sad to see this happen to end out a great coaches career and to also put a great university in jeopardy in so many ways. There are a lot of lessons learned from this and mainly goes to our future and we have to take what has happened and learn from it.
Growing up in State College for me was amazing. We had very good schools and a nice community and everything was great. I grew up 5 minutes away from Beaver stadium in between where Joe Pa and president Graham Spanier live. I have loved Penn State my whole life by just growing up in this community, so when it was time for me to pick a college I knew witch one i was going to pick. Penn State in my mind has always been known for its integrity and how we always play by the rules and don't let anyone get away with anything no matter who they are. I always believed that Penn State was better than other colleges for that reason. Growing up I could see a lot on the news about how other sports programs are being tarnished and punished for their mistakes and mischieveist acts, and I never thought that Penn State would ever be involved in one. After the past few weeks with all of these scandels that have been going on I have gotten plenty of texts and calls from other family members and friends in other parts of the country asking how it is down here and if its safe or not. Penn States reputation really got put to shame here in so many ways. Our university will be tarnished forever because of what happened. This does not only hurt the university but it also hurts every single student that goes here their reputation from going to Penn State. People in the world judge Penn State students from now on. After that riot that went on Wednesday night I think really changed some peoples perspective on Penn State and really judge some of the students that go here now. These past 2 weeks have been a nightmare for Penn State students and its not fair for us to be judged after our officials are the ones who screwed the university up in the first place. The riot was an outrage by the students that went out of control and should have never happened. Penn States reputation as a university is now ruined for a while and im sad to say the only way its going to change is where it started, football. As soon as Penn State is finished with this season in football our program will be looking for a new head coach. With a new head coach Penn State will be able to wipe everyone out of the old program and start over. And its not til after we start winning again under a whole new program that we will be recognized as something other then A sick University and all the bad reputattions we have now.
Illegal immigrants are considered one of the biggest problems in the United States today. The question about whether or not that they should speak english or not is causing an up-rise. I believe that immigrants in the United States should have to learn the language, not just for the sake of being in the United States but also for their benefit in contributing to our society by working or just regular communication with others. Immigrants coming in to our country is a problem in itself. Over Population and jobs and all the other factors that are the reason that the government doesn't want them here in the first place. I believe that Illegal immigrants in the United States do some good, but also cause many problems towards our economy. They will be in our country regardless of what our government tries to do. The fact that they come and don't even attempt to learn our language I think is a problem. I don't see if someone comes over to this country how they would be ever to function in our society today. Our country is very strongly based on our language and for all jobs you have to have a boss and they will have to communicate with anyone they work with. They are not going to change the language of our country anytime soon, so I suggest that if they want to be in this country and they want to contribute to society and there is no way that anyone will be able to do that. For any race it goes too, because its them same for Asian Americans. I see a lot of asians communicating with each other in their own language around campus all the time. Most of them I see around campus struggle to speak english and some don't, but you can tell all of them are at least attempting to learn the language of this country. Spanish I know is a big language used in this country, for mexicans coming into our country I think that gives them an idea that they can come here and not learn the language and be alright just cause Spanish a big second language here. This is not the case and this is problem that we are having with immigrants not learning the language. All immigrants that don't know how to speak english I feel like they should be required to learn and I believe that all job corparation no matter where they are or what they do that they should make speaking and reading english an requirement for being in this country. This country is based on the American dream and I feel like that is a big part of why immigrants come to this country, how could you live it when you don't speak the language. There should be classes at all levels that are required if you want to get a job or land or anything like that. English is the language of this country and that will never change no matter how many immigrants come to this country.
Growing up I had many different kinds of friends. I grew up in State College right around campus, and there is a lot of diverse people that live in the town. I had many different kinds of friends and also my parents are very cultured and travel a lot and I lived in Paris for a year. But growing up I had many different kind of friends and when you start to get older it turns into just are you being a "poser" or not. I think that is dumb from my point of view because I have known a lot of my friends now for a long time and I am brazilian and look African American so it was tough for me to find the right crowd. Being a poser is something last is only opinionized. People call others posers when they are with people that all are a different race and they are trying to look the same or whatever. But I think being a poser is more than that you don't have to be a poser if you a different race then your friends there are posers that are the same race. Everything can happen all in the same race as well with people trying to hang out with a certain crowd or trying to be like a certain person and hang out with them. So its not really being a poser just if your not the same race I think it comes down to a bunch of things about how your acting or who you are trying to act like. Now I have plenty of different kinds of friends that it almost amazes me. I have some friends that like some of the things I like and I also have others that do some of the things that I like to do, all from different races. I don't think im a poser because I dont look like some of the friends I hang out with, I think it goes deeper and realize i like the same things as them or I do the same things as them. If I were to just fake liking things to hang out with them or do things that they do if i dont like it or want to. Then thats a poser. People that really feel the need to pretend to like things just to hang out with a certain group or race is bad. Anyone can find someone that enjoys the same things they do and no one needs to be a poser in life. I think that most people that are called posers really need to be looked at and you have to get to know them before you call them that, if you know they are just pretending then its a different story, but most the time they do like the same things or do the same things regardless of race.
Comfort is big thing for people our age to think about. Everything now is always about what your wearing and who made it and how your wearing it. Style is big part of a young adults life. It is all different when you look into gender for what people are wearing. Women have sex appeal and thats big in this day and age and it really hooks a man to a women. Sex appeal is very important to all females, and whats sexy to a male is no question the female body. Its not exactly the same for women looking at men. Of course there is sex appeal for men and women really look at that too, but its not the main component they are looking for. Girls choose to wear short skirts and high heels because they know its sexy, it takes them out of their comfort zone because of the fact that its not comfortable at all and they are doing it only for the look. They know men really desire a womens body over most things that they see in girl. So it really matters to girls to go out in heels and short skirts as sex appeal and attraction for men to see, even though it takes them out of their comfort. For men, we all know that sex appeal isn't as big of a deal like it is for women. Guys dress comfortably because all guys do. No guy goes out at night in something really uncomfortable because of the look. All guys dress comfortably and still look good because we don't have to show off our bodies as sex appeal like females do. Women have come along way from where they were in society 50 to 100 years ago. They know are equal to men in almost every aspect, I don't think sex appeal is a big deal that women should be mad about, that they have to dress like that to attract men to them. The comfort deal is a problem for most girls though, to dress like that is very uncomfortable but they all know that it attracts men to them. Men all dress comfortably because we were never made to show off our bodies like women do. It is not degrading in any aspect for women that over the years it has been no question that women showing off their bodies is sexy. Stripers and women like that know that it is what attracts men so they dance and show their bodies for money. If you look at people our age and women that dress like that are just doing pretty much the same thing but in a more suttle aspect to attract men. It is not slutty or degrading and i think it can be gravely miss conceptive that is.
In this world there is no reason to generalize what races do what drugs. In every country there are multiple choices of drugs, spanning from pills to flowers. In america, we see a flux of prescription drugs being given to patients through their doctors. Elderly people are frequently given mind altering drugs that allow them to live in their own world alone in their house. It keeps them sedated, until they die. This is an opinionated view but they cannot deny that they hand these pills out like adult candy.
I would agree that race could have a part of what drugs are used within their race. An example of this would be people that live in Northern California, that grow and are around marijuana as their job. There it is basically legal, and any citizen can get a license for use. Whether you think marijuana is a drug or not, it is socially considered one. A drug that can be compared is alcohol. Alcohol alters your mind and it used worldwide. What surprises me is how easily it is to obtain alcohol and that it is not illegal. Thousands of people die every year from doing stupid things when they are drunk. The amount of people who died from marijuana overdose was zero. Yet is is illegal everywhere in the US?
Many races can be associated with different drugs and different drug tendencies. Its important to understand that its a personality decision if you do drugs or not, considering your not born to know what drugs you will do if any. If you really look at different races and what drugs those races tend to use the most. Its hard to put it in perspective. I feel like all drugs are used by all kinds of people, back in the 70's and 80's it was a different time. Blacks were in the crack cocaine era and in the 60's a lot of white hippies tended to use LSDs and Psychedelics. And Asian Americans were always known for growing and smuggling opium in the US. So I feel like there is no real way of saying a race tends to more drugs then another race. I'm sure there is statistics in prison of the number of people from one race are put away for a certain drug. But those can't be completely correct in thinking of how race plays a big factor in the justice system with them directing their attention to lower poor areas that are mostly poor blacks or asians and non superior race. So in the end I feel like that being from a certain race doesn't mean it plays a factor in what drugs are most likely going to be there. Not any race uses more drugs then any other race, some tend to use other drugs then another but in the end being a certain race does not entail what elicit drugs you would use.
The reason I decided to come to Penn State were really based on how well I did in High School. I am from State College and I have lived here my whole life, witch really means a lot. Growing up here I was always a huge Penn State fan in every aspect. I loved Penn State football basketball, went to all the camps growing up and both my parents worked at the university. When I graduated High School from State high my GPA was only around a 2.7. I had a chance to go elsewhere like St. Joesephs in Philadelphia and also a couple different branch campuses. In the end I choose Penn State because I thought I could get a lot from living here, like help from my parents and such. In the end I realized my problem was that I just wasn't ready for change and I couldn't leave home like most of the people from my High School. Both my parents working here also played a big role in being that I got a nice discount for coming here on my tuition. It was a lot for my freshmen year and I struggled a bit. But now I have help from a lot of different people and I am doing a lot better. I now am a real Penn State student like I always wanted to be growing up, seeing everyone walking around campus and to wonder what it was like to live that life, and now here I am. I always wonder if I would be better off getting away from the town I have lived in for 19 years but then again I always just wanted to be a Penn State student, so I feel like I made a good decison in coming here and now I just have to make sure I succeed to make it worth it.
You know what race and ethnicity you are and you know you can't lie about it. That’s why it makes sense if you’re going to classify yourself in a way it would be race and ethnicity. It’s something that you can't hide from and you can't lie about so it’s the most truthful way of classifying yourself. That’s how I think people should be classified and I think that it shouldn't be done by anyone else but the person themselves or else its going off the base of what someone else is thinking about another person. It should be the person classifying themselves to their race or ethnicity. majority of people don't have a religion. Gender is the most basic way to classify people but it doesn't really split up into different categories so you won't be able to see all the different types of people there are in the world.
I would be considered an African Latino because of my skin tone, my ancestors came from Africa to Brazil. To classify someone by their job wouldn’t make sense because they can always change and a job isn't really showing who you are it’s just a label on you. Religion could be a classification but again people switch religions all the time and a ma To classify yourself in any of these categories would be tough but it only makes sense to go with race and ethnicity because it’s something that can be split up into so many different categories that it makes it interesting and also you can't hide who you truly are, you can hide who you are by joining a different religion and a job does not classify who you are. Everyone really ends up classifying themselves because who else is going to do it.
