you bring up a good point about the scrutiny - on some level i do agree, but i really feel like that should come from people who know & care about you in real life - not people who "think" they know you online. really, how much can you know someone from only reading their blog? but LOL at your comment about angelina jolie :)

LOL llg - i agree with your statement about the other commenter. i just need to repeat what i said before, i really think that the FTC guidelines and attack on product review bloggers is all a "made up" issue, and started when some mommy blogger got her panties in a bunch....

you know, people keep throwing out there that print journalists return EVERY sample...really? i don't believe that, but i'm very cynical. i mean, what about beauty products? print journalists and magazines DO NOT distinguish very well between what's advertising and what's strictly editorial - there is no editorial! look through any magazine, you'll see the print ads that are clearly ads, then in nearly every feature or editorial, you'll see a product or two mentioned from those companies who are advertising. is that ethical? what is it? i don't know...i write my 100% honest opinion about everything and sometimes i receive products for free to review. so maybe i'm not to be taken seriously...

LOL - i don't think i would post just random dislikes here and there, i only post negatives if they're \"rants\" (i'm really disappointed) or if i think there are enough people out there who would be interested...

i totally understand the not wanting to give them any press part - that's why i don't mention chick downtown at all - ever - anymore. i used to have a disclaimer whenever i mentioned them that there had been some bad CS experiences, but recently decided to just not mention them at all. �sometimes i regret that i don't have the info. more readily available, but then i feel like for long enough, i had that information on there, so if someone does a search, they'll find it - i do think that knowing where NOT to shop and what NOT to buy is as important as where and what to buy...

that's a great point jennine - i guess that's why i tend to like the really personal blogs, because the person HAS to evolve and grow and change over time - well, in theory anyway - and it's interesting to see how that changes the blog.

LOL, that's an ongoing challenge for all of us i think...i try to ask my readers questions, leave questions in my post unanswered, really invite discussion - those things help to get comments, but sometimes you're just not going to get any...obviously writing controversial posts will get comments - from people who disagree or agree with you - and it's kind of a trial and error thing. experiment with different kinds of posts and see which ones get the most comments...

i was getting trackbacks through my blogs, and someone wrote to me once saying she found my site through another one! i also found one through a google alert...

i'm honestly not an expert on this at all, but i think that as long as you �have some sort of copyright notice, you're good - especially in the RSS footer because that HAS to be included in any \"scraped\" content.

hi beth - i hope you get everything figured out, i really think thesis is worth it - i'm finding it so much easier to change things, move things around, and generally just mess with stuff LOL
