I have several thoughts on this subject. Several years ago I had a great job and l completely self sufficient. Then out of the blue, I had a stroke and almost died. While in the hospital, I was terminated, unable to work or even walk, and had bills to pay. Trying to get on public assistance for me was worse than a nightmare. Public assistance plus the help of many great friends, family, and my church, we survivied. I needed the assistance and got it. That being said, I was able to go back to work after 6 months. However, I know of a person that is younger than I am on public assistance. He and his family have been on public assistance the entire time I have known themOver 17 years!!!!! He can't work, but he can get tattoos, buy shotguns, and even have satellite. He has had 2 part time jobs that did not last 90 days total. He can spend large amounts of money on lottery tickets, arcade games, and ply time. I agree, anyone receiving public assistance with a few exceptions, should be required to volunteer. One closing item, EVEYONE receiving public assistance should not be allowed to buy alochol or cigarettes. All should be tested for illegal substances as well.
