Aside from the fact that the actions of the school are legally wrong, we CHL holders generally believe that this is not just a right but simply "the right thing to do". For you folks shocked by this concept and by the above responses from so many pro-carry on campus folks, consider that we are your neighbors, relatives, doctors, dentists, ministers, clerks, tradesmen and work-mates. We sincerely believe that by being armed, we protect not only ourselves, but our communities primarily through deterrence. We do not have criminal records and do have respect for the law and our fellow citizens. The basis of our belief that we provide a social benefit is well articulated in the comprehensive study by University of Chicago law professor John Lott, with graduate student David Mustard. Consider that the Lott study and other information over that last decades has convinced the majority of U.S. State Legislatures that concealed carry for non-criminal citizens meeting certain basic training requirements should be permitted. If you are interested at all in why we strongly believe that good citizens carrying concealed weapons is a good and responsible thing to do, please start with a little bit of research in this direction. You may find that like so many things in life, this is a counterintuitive truth.
