I'm so glad to hear these! I'm especially excited about Oregon's sense about faith healing.
Atheist Revolution : What\'s the Harm if Believing Makes People Feel Good?

"So why should someone abandon a belief that brings them comfort?" They should because there is something more important than feeling good: finding truth. This search for a reasonable truth and understanding comes at the cost of comfort. We have to make some sacrifices, some hard choices, and some humbling adjustments to how we act and what we believe. Even though the search for truth is difficult, it's worth it. My recent post Changing Opinions- 4 Controversies in the Past 5 Years

Oh yeah, atheists are evil, vindictive people who always have dark music cued in the background when they talk.

Atheist Revolution : Childfree Atheists

Thanks so much for using my blog as a springboard for your discussion, vjack. You said "And for those who say that they didn't want (or like) children either until they had their first, I do not doubt your experience." My own mother has said this exact thing, and I know it's true for her. She loves *her* kids, but isn't much of a "kid person" outside of our family. I like that about her! But do I want to have a child just to see if this might be true for me? No. I won't use a child as an experiment, and I will not go into parenthood on a gamble. Before I ever have children (if ever), I will have to be 100% sure I am willing, eager, and as ready as possible.

Atheist Revolution : Why Atheists Shouldn't Eat at Chick-fil-A

I wouldn't boycott CFA for the mere fact that it's Christian, but I would avoid giving them money to keep *other* ministries and businesses from getting to it (like that damned Focus on the Family, etc.). It's more about the work that is supported by the money they donate to others that bugs me. Perhaps this is because I work at a Christian company myself, and I've been told to quit my job because of the simple fact that it is evangelical. Sure, this doesn't exactly thrill me, but I love the people, am great at my job, and I admire their business practices and the way they treat us as employees. Thankfully my company is not tied to extreme right-wing ministries like CFA seems to be. I think I would be more likely to quit if I knew my work was providing direct help to causes I find abominable. But that goes for any company--Christian or not.

Atheist Revolution : Atheist Groups are Growing

I'm a member of a local Atheist meetup group and I love it. When I first started attending in 2009 we had about 9 people coming. Now we have a regular attendance of over 25. I'm not sure why it's bursting at the seams, but it's a lot of fun and we justhave a good, casual time together as friends.

Internet stalker? Hardly. He just described a guy who likes to picture breasts. Whoopdeedo. No implication and it comes off like a strawman. Despite my defense of this guy, I totally agree that this whole reaction comes from repressing healthy sexuality.

I'd love to go to something like that simply to fulfill a yearning for a larger community, a sense of cause and doing something to promote a change in perception, and so forth. However, it's really a money/vacation time issue for me. :/

Godless Girl : Skeptics in the Harry Potter Universe

That's a helpful way to put it, thanks. I am imagining that in a world of this Harry Potter-style magic, the mystery of it would have given early witches and wizards a special kind of power--perhaps even a demigod status. Put a wand into Jesus' hands, and the Bible stories would have been much similar, only the "magic of the holy spirit" would have been credited for the healings and water turning into wine, etc.
