Winter Is Coming : Jory signs, the rest backgrounded

If we stay away from the Harry Potter movies we're going to eliminate a huge portion of immensely talented English actors. People, who by the way, have the ability to melt into whatever character they're playing and make you completely forget that they ever played anyone else. Twilight, though... Yeah, definitely want to stay clear of that abomination.

Steven Waddington has always been my mental Edmure. Although he may be a little too old for the role now. Edmure is the little brother, right?

Step one would be to eliminate the Americans. Kevin Costner and Jeff Bridges, really? And surely whoever suggested Paul "Crocodile Dundee" Hogan couldn't have been serious. Oh, and Mark Strong and Ralph Fiennes are far too young. Beyond that I'd prefer to see Sting as Mance Rayder (although Roger Daltrey and David Bowie would work there as well). Lots of good ideas there, though.

Well, they have everybody signed that they need to start re-shooting the pilot. That buys them a couple more weeks to keep working on contracts for characters that show up later.

Winter Is Coming : We have a Sam!

I know they don't have any scenes together but I think this sets an upper limit on how tall the actor cast as Littlefinger can be. I don't recall any references to Sam being noticeably short so if 5'8" is considered within the range of average in Westeros then Petyr needs to be considerably shorter than that - 5'6" max, I would say.

I don't know, kids grow. A growth spurt will just add to the realism as far as I'm concerned. Using a little person stand-in for a teenager would look even more ridiculous.

I think Sopranos and SatC would have continued if HBO felt they still had a story to tell. Didn't watch either of them but I would assume that somebody felt they had run their course and it was time to go. Broadcast networks may drag a popular series out as long as they can sell advertising but that's not what HBO does. This story has 7 years to tell, the only way it gets cancelled is if it isn't turning a profit.

I haven't been able to sit through more than about 10 minutes of two or three episodes. Probably not the fault of the actors but there you go. I have liked Forbes and Sanderson in other things I've seen them in. So I would be happy to see them in GoT. Don't know Skarsgard at all. I like Anna Paquin, too, and I am continually amazed that she connected herself to this thing.

Winter Is Coming : World-class make-up artist joins the game

Well, if the "someone" who supposedly saw the long trailer knew what he was talking about "cool looking zombies" would be the wights, not the Others. I think the Others appear so little on screen that there may be enough budget to do outstanding CGI on them. I worry that if they try to do them with make-up and CGI the blue eyes in they're going to end up looking too much like David Lynch's Fremen or Geoff Peterson.

Winter Is Coming : Loras cast, GRRM confirms and promises more

I tried this earlier but intense debate seems to have eaten it. I'll give it another go... I've never really been a fan of epic fantasy. I didn't even read ASOIAF for years because of this despite being a huge GRRM fan all my life. If you are looking to branch out a little you might want to take a look at Dune by Frank Herbert or Robert Silverberg's Majipoor Chronicles. They are technically science fiction but they read very much like fantasy. Also, I always recommend Spin by Robert Charles Wilson to anybody and everybody who will listen - an absolutely fantastic book with amazingly well developed characters. If you are a gamer you should also take a look at This is not a Game by Walter Jon Williams. Couldn't agree more with the people who recommended World War Z. Maybe it's just I haven't been reading the right books but I have never seen a mockumentary novel (movies yes, but not a book). It really added to the realism of the story and I don't understand how it wasn't a finalist for the Hugo or Nebula.

Completely off topic but Harry Lloyd's episode of Dr. Who is on BBC America tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. Never watched the show before this year but the kid discovered it and has sucked me in with her. Too bad she's too young for GoT.
