Hi Eugenia,
The Sonoma home was actually one of my favorites. The quality of the construction was the best I've seen, with a lot of attention to detail, but that is what that builder is known for. As nice as the dream home was, the other homes in his subdivision were even better. Meticulous attention to detail, and quality throughout.

With the Truckee home the neighborhood is amazing with all the amenities, club house, golf course, yacht, apres ski "lodge", etc. The house is beautiful and I love all the windows, but the quality of the construction just isn't close to the Sonoma home, but to be fair, not much that I have seen is up to the quality of the Sonoma home.

Hi nhtrekker, Truckee definitely has it's touristy places, more so in South Shore Lake Tahoe, or Incline Village near the north shore. I haven't had much opportunity to shop there, but I did see several cute shops I'd like to go into when I have more time. My last two visits I did check out the restaurants that were featured in the Food Network show "Diner's Drive-ins and Dives", and both had delicious items on their menus. http://www.flavortownusa.com/cities/california/tr...

DB,
The Hanford House Inn is just a few minutes from where I work. I'm the office manager at Barron's Furniture. Next time you're in the area, stop in and say hello. :-)

I went on the tour January 9th and had a wonderful time. I've been dreaming of winning an HGTV dream home since the first time I saw a dream home special back in 2002. Every year I get super excited about the possibility of winning such an amazing prize. The houses are all so beautiful that I wish I could see each one in person. I'm so grateful that I got the opportunity to see the Sonoma home and now the Truckee home. Even if I never win, seeing the homes in person was experience I'd recommend to anyone. I can certainly relate to the people who like me can't get enough details about the home because it just helps to fuel the dream of winning.

Hi memanbepa, yes the colors really "pop" in the rooms. They go perfectly with the home. My husband's favorite room was the family room, and not just for the extra big tv. He loved the colors and textures of the room.

Truckee is wonderful for hiking and there are tons of trails very close by. I'm a walker myself, so I was excited to see that the golf cart path is just outside the backyard and would be perfect for a daily walk.

Hi Eugenia, I dvr'd the dream home special and finally had time to watch it today. I realized that when you watch the video the guys are walking around in the home and they give great perspective as to how large the rooms are. If you haven't watched the special, I believe someone on the blog posted videos of it on youtube. The special really does a great job at showing off the house and the community.

One thing not mentioned on the special is that in Truckee there are two restaurants in town that have been featured on Food Network's show, "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". I've been to both and they live up to the hype. On this last visit, my hubby and I visited "Jax at the tracks" for dinner and it was delicious!

Hi cebe46,

I toured the Dream Home on the 9th, and there are two closets in the garage. One contains an on demand water heater, and the other contains the furnace. I didn't actually get to open the doors because we weren't allowed to, but that is the information given to us by the docents. They are typical closet space. Not like a walk in closet, but like a hall closet. There is tons of room in the garage for storage, especially if you add some shelving units.

Hi twoTERRIERs,

I love your philosophy on getting rid of stuff if you can't fit it. I downsized homes a few years ago and at first I thought I really needed all my "stuff", but after tripping over things for a few weeks I got fed up and gave it all away, and never missed any of it. I'm so much happier when everything is neat and tidy.

Hi Bubbawartz,

I visited the Dream Home on the 9th, and the tv is mounted on a bracket that rotates so you can view it easily from any part o the room. Also, it is a large tv, and is easily viewable. I currently sleep on a California King size mattress, but when I stay in hotels on vacation, my husband and I often sleep on queen size beds and they are fine for us even though we are a plus sized couple. Good luck to you. :-)
