I may be wrong here, but I think that we are all making the false presumption that he is speaking about all atheists. His use of the term, "New Atheist", probably adds to the confusion, but I think he is mainly concerned with Atheists who take up a stance of passivity toward theological debate. Obviously, if you are reading this comment then you are not what i would call a passive Atheist, but instead you most likely are reasonably up to date on current theological arguments and counter arguments.

I think by putting us all under the umbrella of his criticisms is incorrect, and could even be seen as creating an unnecessary rift amongst secular oriented individuals. It is a perfectly acceptable thing, in my view, to criticize people within our group, if we are of the opinion that Atheists should take on an active stance toward theological debate. For us to condemn such criticism, is to put us on par with blind followers of a religious faith.

I think that even in the current climate most people will see through his facade. Using religion as a scapegoat is not a new trick, and other people reading this, who regardless of their religious status, will be able to discern that his religiousness is a hoax.

But then again there are always those who will prove me wrong. I just don't think that there will be enough of them to really influence the overall opinion of his horrible acts.

It really is disheartening that people like this surround me at all times.
