yeah, crud and darn are fine. Crap doesn't bother me much, though if my 4-yr-old was saying all the time it would tick me off. Damn is pushing it for me, but that's just me. And really, considering this storyline and who is in it, I'm actually very impressed with the LACK of cursewords. I just thumbed through some archives now and the only one I came across was "dumbasses" in the previous chapter (maybe some wouldn't call that a curse word, but I guess I do). This story is about a 24-year-old and his adventures, not a 8-year-old and his adventures, so when Hannu emerges from yet another dunking in the cold water, I'm surprised at his mild expletives like "Oh, come ON!" or "Ah, crap," in place of "FOR F(*#$ SAKES!!" or "This it total bull$#*!" These are the things I would /expect/ a young man who doesn't appear to have strong religious convictions/background to say, but he doesn't, and that's also fine (it shows a depth of character, length of temper, and breadth of vocabulary that is not common in folks anymore :) ).

I think the first one is good, but I agree on the "too clean" part... The same layout and all would be fine, but it needs a bit more of a bleariness... as if I was out there bobbing in those waves and just got dunked underneath and I'm still blinking the saltwater out of my eyes. The second panel captures that feeling more. Regardless, your artwork is always beautiful! Someday, when I have the time, I will be attempting a webcomic of my own and yours will always be something that I compare myself to in the quality department!

I'm probably a parent that's too lenient, but I'd let my kids read this... granted, neither of them are old enough to read yet, but when they reached the age of about 8 or 9 I would for sure. The violence/action doesn't bother me so much as the rare curse word that pops up (I'm not against those per se either, but I want my kids to understand that I think they are rude to use and don't want to hear them ever saying them [just as they will never hear me saying them] and that shouting "Dammit!" when the milk spills while they are visiting at Grandma's is probably a bad choice). I'd give this a PG rating maybe rather than G, just because of that!

Oooo it must be Cygnus the constellation Swan! (or is it an albatross? no, it must be a swan, Cygnus is a swan-word from Latin, isn't it?) And in defense of the screamy baby (I own two of them), he/she is probably bored/scared/confused/hungry/uncomfortable out of his/her wits. We parents don't bring them on trips just to annoy everyone else, honest!

Reply to add (because it wouldn't allow all my blabbering in one post): Also, love love LOVE the setting and the characterization. I'm Canadian and therefore am mostly surrounded by, well, Canadian/American stuff, and it always frustrates me that most popular culture and entertainment seems to be so Americanized We wouldn't even hear names like those of your marvelous characters if it wasn't for the NHL! (lol). The names of your characters are so great and so "otherworldly" to someone like me, yet at the same time very real and very approachable (we have some Finn neighbours and their last name is Tuomi and while they are in the Grandparenting stage of their life, the gentleman is always plunking away on his mandolin, and so I giggled when Paju's brother came along with his electric guitar!). Anyways, I am eager to read the rest of this incredible tale and thank you SO MUCH for sharing your art with us all. Keep up the EXCELLENT work and best wishes in your current endeavours!

Sooo... I just stayed up most of the night last night reading the entire archive and I am ABSOLUTELY STUNNED and adore this comic so very very much! Not to mention I am thrilled that you update it every day and that you have a plot arc completely laid out ahead of time... Too many comics that have other things going for them (great art, good character development) end up with a "I'll just make this up as I go along" sort of feel after a while.
