Holding any team to 157 total yards speaks well of the defense, but I am a little concerned with the two turn overs altough I did not see the game as to what caused them.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa AD says Big Ten down to final number of divisional scenarios

I believe the East and West divisions continue the be the most logical choice. We need to remember that: (a) this is a permant change (b) most rivlals are with the boarder states or university within your state. As to night games it is obvious that it can be cold once the sun goes down. But, you also have security, traffic flow, safety that are more of a concern at night.

I hope Iowa's basketball improves from one of the worst records in Iowa's basketball history. But, the key is recruiting - recruiting - recruiting. A couple of 4 or 5 star high school players would help turn this program around.

GazetteOnline.com : Rivalries at risk in Big Ten's new division shuffle (with poll)

We need to remember that there are a considerable number of other sports that also would be affect by a division set up. I believe we realize that the revenue sports of football, basketball, wrestling & ice hockey support the non-revenue sports. Do you realize that the number of teams and probably players in non-revenue sports is more than revenue sports? These sports and related cost need to be considered in any Big Ten division set up.

GazetteOnline.com : Weighing in on Big Ten dividing of divisions

There are quite a few non-revenue sports at all Big Ten schools. If you can keep the cost of travel down by playing, on an annual bases, schools close by that would probably save each school over a hundred thousand dollars a year.

GazetteOnline.com : Big 12 wheeling, dealing explained

I believe the five schools that were going to be left out of if the Pac 10 offer was accepted had these choices: a) a new different Big 12 or b) go to the Mountain West c) be an independent or d) be a different Big 12 and find other teams to join you (but who?). They chose the first option. On the other hand, if one team (i.e. Texas) gets in way all the time, this leads to a weak conference and not to happy conference members. I forcast that conference will again re address this issue within five years.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa politicians ready to fight, fight, fight for Iowa, Iowa State

As the past Controller of a major university's athletic department let me assure you that most athetic departments are self sufficient and do not get tax dollars in Iowa or any other state. Yes, they do get TV revenue and alumni donations along with ticket sales and yes this conference shake up will affect many university's athletic department bottom line. And yes Iowa State revenue will go down unless it is part of a major conference. Most university's make money on football and might break even for Basketball, Ice Hockey and Wrestling in the case of Iowa. But, most intercollegiate sports (swimming, lacross, soccer, baseball, water polo, boxing, track, cross country, etc. ) lose money. As the conferences expand the cost of running these sports are going to increase but these non-revenue sports are vital to the total athletic experience.

GazetteOnline.com : ISUtoBig10.com

The ISUtoBigTen.com looks like a great web site. But, realistically I don't believe it will happen. Other schools can bring a lot more to the table than Iowa State. If, the Big 12 breaks up ISU (plus a few other schools) will have to find another conference or be an independent for a few years until the dust settles.

GazetteOnline.com : Bryce Cartwright officially to join Iowa men's basketball team

We all realized there are no 4 or 5 star players this late in the recruiting season. Bryce Cartwright, although not a high scorer, will bring some experience to the Hawkeyes back court. Also, it appears that the new coach is expanding the Iowa recuriting effort to a nation wide effort which I believe is needed to get the correct players for his system of basketball. My one concern is that I hope the coach knows why Cartwright went from Fresco State to a Community College, which to me was a step backwords.
