You claim truth, well show us your evidence for it, rather than just claim it with airy-fairy words and assertions that it exists. It's empty and shallow rhetoric. There is no driving reason or need for one to exist, nor any evidence that points to there having to be it as an explanation. It is purely a leap to a conclusion based on no evidence. For the most part my experience with people claiming 'spirits' or 'souls' or 'everything is connected', their definitions of exactly what that is are either not even thought out and it's just a term for nothing really, or using occams razor we find a lot simpler explanations exist. Because if it was a convention of accountants it would be eligible for funding. The fuss is that the only reasoning that the funding was delayed for even an answer is because of the philosophical position it is. Get all thingy about religion? Have you read some of the issues presented on the site as to WHY get all thingy about religion? Religion claims rights above and beyond others in our society, just because they believe in a fairy. I'd get just as thingy about astrology if it got tax breaks and an astrologer was funded by our government to teach it in our schools as truth.

Beryl, simple answer is what would your jesus do? (and this coming from an atheist direct to you oh believer. Can you say irony?) Would your jesus see a reasoning for this, in that the school has to uphold uniform standards? This has been the argument from so many christians. Or that it will open the doors to folk protesting in so many other ways? is that it? if they allow this, next thing you know folk will be protesting animal injustice with nose rings? Is that really how shallow the arguments are? Indeed! As an atheist, how come I see this as a great wrong-doing, yet many christians argue school uniform standards need to be upheld, which is the only reasoning that has been given. The school is able to decide on this case on it's merits, and it has done so in no uncertain terms. It's position has been quite clear, and like many christian concepts of 'morals' they have no understanding as to why others are offended. Indeed one Father Mick Mac Andrew Bombala-Delegate NSW wrote on cathnews as a retort : "A family, when it enrolls its child or children in a Catholic School, needs to realise that the code of behaviour required to uphold the good of the school to be enjoyed by all the student s includes a very significant contribution by the parents to see it is upheld." Was he just saying MONEY is the issue here? That people pay good money to the school for standards to be upheld? It's not just atheists seeing this as just downright WRONG, it is other christians as well, and there is very good reasoning for this. What I fail to see, is why the catholics, and folk such as yourself, are not seeing that a wrong has been done here, but closing your doors to protect your 'institution' There appears not to be just 'a few bad apples' here, there is endemic loss of basic humanistic understanding. The church is losing followers Beryl, as people look at it and see that it is not a force of good in the world. It consistantly maintains dogma regardless of people. It refuses to look at situations and looks at laws it has setup. It is more worried about 'standards' than people. I am disgusted at the response by those supporting the school with this poor girl and her dying father. Her FATHER IS DYING, and I see the school arguing about dress code and people such as yourself lamenting the fact others find the school doing what it did, and saying something about it, more important to confront than her families feelings and the fact this poor girl is losing her father. Your more concerned about being told off, than her situation. Disgusting. Damn right somethings wrong, and it's not in those trying to point it out to you. It's people so addled by their religious institutions they can't even see what they are doing, or right a grievous wrong.

This is going to be an awesome event, The economic boost to tourism these events bring is why there is funding for these massive conventions, it's starting to seem as tho however the religiously based ones are greenlighted, whilst the deafening sound of silence is falling on those of the non-believers. For one of the largest, if not the largest atheist convention in the world, with international exposure brought on Melbourne, not to mention the dollars thousands of dollars visitors bring in, it's inexplicable that the government seems to be avoiding even answering the request.

The same reasons religious deny all these gods is why atheists deny
theirs.

They are atheistic towards these gods. In effect we are not dissimilar
in our lack of belief, when looked at wholistically.

This also approaches the argument that 'Isn't it better to believe just
in case?', otherwise known as Pascals Wager, to not be what at first to
a believer such a great gamble.

There are literally thousands of gods, even in christianity there are
many ways to salvation.

Not everyone can be right ;)
