If you never installed it, then it should not be "in" your iPhone, I don't think it auto install itself.

I am on official carrier too, and having an unlocked phone is really an additional feature for me as I am able to take my iPhone with my travels. I use a pre-paid SIM instead of roaming, save a lot of bucks and on some country like Thailand, they have a prepaid SIM with unlimited data for a month on cellular network and unlimited data on wireless on TRUE (SP). Having my iPhone with me with pre-paid SIM with data really helped, it's like having a tour guide in your pocket.

I don't mean to be mean spirited or anything like that but it is dying, the iphone that is. Might as well donate it. AT&T has a bin to donate old phone to soldiers or go to this site >> w w w.c e l l p h o n e s f o r s o l d i e r s. c o m I'm sure our fighting men and women will not mind an iphone even if it's crashing a lot.

if you upgrade FW through iTunes it will be UN-JB, so yeah you need to re-JB then blacksn0w to unlock.

I have to agree, although I have not had any issues with either 5.11.07 or 4.26.08 on either of my iphones, why even bother and take a chance. I see so many issue other are having, maybe I just got lucky?? I was going to upgrade my other iphone with 4.26.08 since I had no trouble at all after upgrading to 5.11.07 and unlocking it. maybe I just got lucky?? Then, better not push my luck

Yeap, I got it to work on both of my own iphone using both custome firmware (BB remaining at 4.26.08, I do not think I will upgrade that BB now, :)) and using blackra1n/blacksn0w on another one. And was able to unlock co-worker's 3GS using blacksn0w through blackra1n, with no issues at all. I must say that both blackra1n/blacksn0w were clean FW upgrades via iTunes from the start.

This is from geohot's blog: ** Push and YouTube issues are caused by hacktivation. The dev team has a fix for YouTube which they are posting on Cydia shortly. ** I guess the dev team is working out the kinks on geohot's unlock issues.

Like I said, "I have not tried this since the blackra1n and blacksn0w worked for me the first time, one of the lucky ones I guess." Posting for other to try other options if they are having too much trouble. But logically, you are right, if you are on 5.11.07 you can custom FW using pwnage to JB then install blacksn0w through Cydia not blackra1n, I have seen posts where this procedure worked for them, looks like installing through Cydia yield better result. but you need to be JB to install through Cydia.

Someone claimed to have finally found the permanent solution (that works great for him on his 3GS) and fix Push, WiFi, YouTube, GPS, SBSettings install and baseband unlock. This is the detailed procedure: 1. Connect your iPhone, start iTunes and enter DFU mode (not restore) 2. When it recognizes the iPhone in restore mode, use shift+restore and choose the official 3.1.2 firmware from Apple 3. After it finishes, close iTunes and use blackra1n to jailbreak. 4. When the jailbreak is complete (you don't need to install blacksn0w at this point), install Cydia just in case and run it once 5. Power off and then power on again your iPhone 6. Connect it again with iTunes and this time enter Restore mode (not DFU). 7. This is the important step: when iTunes detects iPhone in recovery mode, hold shift, click on restore and chose a custom 3.1.2 firmware created with Pwnage Tools 3.4. It's recommended that the custom firmware is created to install ONLY Cydia and it's NOT ACTIVATED! (there are ipsw already created like this, I know l i n k s cannot be posted here) 8. After this is complete, do not install blackra1n. Your iPhone is already jailbroken. First, if you can, use the original SIM card once to unlock your iPhobe with iTunes. This step is important in order for Push to work. 9. After activation, use Cydia to install SBSettings and all apps sync, music, videos... everything BUT the unlock 10. Use Cydia (not blackra1n) to install blacksn0w. It's important to install it LAST, especially after SBSettings and mobile substrate. 11. This is the last step. Replace the carrier.plist in /system/library/carrier.bundels/unknown.bundle with custom made one. This is also essential for tethering to work and to eliminate network problem settings Hope this helps to fix most of the problems. I have not tried this since the blackra1n and blacksn0w worked for me the first time, one of the lucky ones I guess. Provide feedback if you tried the above and it worked for you, so others can see that it worked too.

The wifi problem - you can try resetting the network setting. geohot site reported issue with this and a lot have tried that workaround. as for tethered issue, try not to run out of battery and do not reboot your iphone unless your next to a PC to do a tethered boot, sorry, I have nothing else to offer for that issue.
