Did you update your iPhone directly using iTunes without using a customized IPSW file? If so, you lost your unlock, possibly forever. Let me know what version it states in Settings -> General -> About -> Modem Firmware If you did customize your IPSW, then all you need to do is run redsn0w again and check the install Cydia option.

In your original post you mentioned "I just unlocked my iphone 3gs ios5". How did you do this without installing Cydia? Did you use redsn0w to create a custom IPSW and then did you upgrad your iPhone using iTunes from the custom IPSW? This is all that you have until now, correct?

1. Jailbreak 2. Install Cydia (usually done along with the jailbreak) 3. Use Cydia to install ultrasn0w

Obviously you've not installed the custom firmware created by Snowbreeze simple mode, else you would have been activated and jail-broken. Please check once more. I'm guessing you've accidentally selected another IPSW.

Squat. Nothing changed. I got a NO_BB IPSW from redsn0w generated on a Mac OSX. Still the same problem. Downgrading back to 4.3.3 I think I'm going to sit this one out. Perhaps 5.1.x will be for me :)

Nope. Once you restore from the NO_BB firmware, you'll have nothing on the SpringBoard. Your phone will be still locked and will ask for the original SIM. You will need to run "jailbreak and install cydia" from redsn0w and then you'll see it on the SpringBoard.

Use the simple mode in sn0wbreeze. It hacktivates, jailbreaks and installs cydia. You can install ultrasn0w through cydia after that.

My problem does not near yours. I do not have any problems with dropped cellular service. I'm connected to my carrier just fine. I can use EDGE and 3G services flawlessly without any breaks in service. GPS also works fine. I can also receive calls just fine. I can send and receive text messages. Only problem is that I'm unable to make any outgoing calls.

I did a clean power-off by sliding across the red-button. Powered it back on. Reset All Settings. In the restore iPhone menu, I selected "disable location services" just incase that was the problem (since its a problem for the iPad BB). Still nothing. BTW, I used Sn0wbreeze to create my IPSW. I don't think that could be the problem, but could it? I'm a Windows 7/CentOS Linux user and the redsn0w for Windows keeps crashing.

Impossible. Snowbreeze does not upgrade baseband on any of its modes. You must have tried to upgrade iOS using stock IPSW.

Hit the simple mode in snowbreeze. It preserves your base-band, hactivates jailbreaks and then installs Cydia. You will need to restore this newly created custom IPSW via DFU mode through iTunes.

I bumped into a weird problem after successfully jail-breaking and unlocking my iDevice. iPhone 3GS - old bootrom. iOS5 - 9A334 Modem firmware - 05.12.01 I was able to restore a custom IPSW (preserved base-band) successfully without bumping into any errors via iTunes. Installed the latest ultrasn0w (1.2.4) along with its dependencies using Cydia. I do have carrier connectivity now. I can send messages/SMS, connect via 3G and EDGE. GPS works flawlessly without breaking connectivity. However, every time I try to make an outgoing call, it says "call failed". I can answer calls that I receive. I have since done a complete restore with a freshly created custom IPSW, reinstalled ultrasn0w, restored settings, etc. Still no luck :( Cannot make out going calls. Any ideas?

Thats not the point! He found an exploit or not, is not what I was trying to target. Its the attitude. I thought hackers were daring. Waiting to be challenged. It looks like things just changed and people now days need "hand held by the dev team". Just a shame to the spirit; gone are those days. You (specifically the iP-Dev T) are becoming more of a social networking group rather than what you were supposed to have been. Fame and money (I know, its not money for you) is what lures people around today. May be I'm just dreaming and you people are right.

Na, just keep hitting the 'Don't Upgrade' button. Your safe. Nothing will happen. Its gonna be a long time until iTunes/Apple will force you to upgrade.

I'm stuck in the same boat here, from India too! Accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3 (actually was trying to restore my crashed iPhone, iTunes silently upgraded me in the process). I however had the SHSH saved on Cydia and was able to downgrade back to 3.1.2 and now have a jailbroken phone. However, no unlock yet :( I did buy the 3G from Vodafone here in India, so I'm gonna go to the Vodafone store tomorrow and ask them if they can deactivate my 3G and activate my 3GS. Hope they can help, although I don't see it happen. LOL.
