And the above solution doesn't seem to be working for me. No matter which solution I try, I always get a message saying "this file or directory cannot be found".

No, no illegal repos either.
Think I should bite the bullet and try the solution for variation D? At this point the worst that could happen is I would have to restore and lose the jailbreak which would hardly be a change from now..

Yes I installed Open SSH. No I've never changed the passwords. Not in the 4 years or so I've been an iPhone user. hould I have expected this to happen because of my own sheer stupidity?
God I hope not. I am in my opinion, being as forthcoming as possible.

And then I lost my nerve so I didn't try the solution for Variant D. Think I should?

The only thing that brings them all back is if I restart my phone holding down the volume up key which disables cydia and effectively runs my phone in its unjailbroken form.
What could potentially be the problem here and how can I fix it without losing my jailbreak?
To fix it, I tried to delete all my most recent cydia downloads, but that didnt help. SO I installed crash reporter which tells me that a root called 'poc-bbot' crashed over 100 times between 15 and 18th April. Another called 'imagent' crashed on the 22nd of April. Could these be responsible in some way?
I'm really hoping this is the right forum to ask this question and I apologise in advance if it isn't and would be greatful if someone could direct me then to the right forum. I'm just at my wits end with the jailbreaking. It always seems to end in tears.. Some help would be super appreciated!

Also, what happens if my baseband gets updated?
If it's not a good thing, Is there any way I can avoid updating my baseband but still update to the latest iOS?

I was hoping to hit you guys up for a some sound advice and perhaps some hand holding for the eternally paranoid.
I have an iPhone 4S currently jailbroken and operating on iOS 5.1.1
Apple is offering me an upgrade to iOS 6.1.1 and I was wondering if I can use evasi0n, safely, to jaibreak that particular iOS?
I should first delete cydia, restore my iPhone to factory setting and then upgrade to iOS 6.1.1 correct? (forgive me but I seem to forget the exact order of things each time i do this so my nerves remain on edge right through)
Following which I should proceed with the jailbreak link available on the evasi0n website?
(I have saved SHSH Blobs for 6.0.1, 6.1.1 and 6.1)
