Farukh Bashir : Zain@Home Part II : 2nd is the new 1st..

Hi Ashim, I connected 2 of my mobiles to Zain @ Home and i did not face any such problem. It connects to the Router and i can browse fine. What is your phone model? Have you tried connecting to a different router to check if you face the same issue. Maybe resetting the router might fix the problem, However be warned zain is not happy about this option. Report back with your phone model and we will take it from there.

Farukh Bashir : VIVA Number Launch plus some more details

After your comment i had to go back and check if i made a mistake or someone gave me wrong Info. I would point out that you are incorrect in making that claim. Viva will be using 3G & 3.5G network only at this time. 4G which is also called LTE is not being used at all in Bahrain by any carrier. It'll be a long time before we hear anything official from either one of the three carriers that they are going to test LTE networks or an official launch. Seeing how long it took us to get 3G i guess it will be somewhere in the middle of next year we will hear something.

No They wont be launching an Iphone officially like how Mobily Does it in Saudi Arabia. The Iphone will be sold just as the same way Batelco and Zain are selling it at the moment. My Source in Batelco told me long ago that They have been trying to Launch the iphone officially since it came out but the problem is that TRA (Telecommunication regulatory Authority) is not allowing them to Launch the iphone exclusively. TRA wants them to share the Iphone with Zain. That might be fine but there is another problem i.e. Apple wont allow 2 carriers to share the Iphone. I cant figure out why that is not possible, because apple is already doing that in UAE where DU and Etisalat both have the right to sell iphone. I guess we will have to wait till either side backs down and the iphone gets a go ahead to be officially available.

The Fair usage policy is not mentioned anywhere. I dont work for STC i got few sources inside that feed me the information. I guess they will put up the FUP once the site is active. 3G/3.5G you'll only be able to get 21Mbps if you live in heaven or are the only one using it. Internet Devices using the 3/3.5G network are using the same cell towers as the people who are on their mobile. The more users the less bandwidth everyone gets. 21Mbps advertisement is basically a marketing gimmick. We all know in real world scenario that is not achieveable. Even with you getting 18Mbps would be only for few minutes before you get down to the average speed of anywhere from 4-12Mb.

They are having problems with the site or the developers are not capable to handle the Job. 4 days of downtime is a huge disappointment. Whoever has STC hired to do the Website should be fired. As for the Number portability, not so sure if TRA has authorized it or not. There were news that they are planning to have it either in the first quarter or 2nd quarter of 2010. Will have to wait and see.

Farukh Bashir : Blackberry Bold 9700 Review

handtec is trustworthy. They are one of the biggest retailers in UK. The whole transaction was smooth and without a hitch. Once you order expect to take 3-4 days for your device to reach you. 2 More of my friends ordered the devices from them and they couldnt be happier. I asked them about the warranty, the site says 2 years. If anything happens you will have to ship the device back to them, they will fix it and send it out to you again. I decided to still order because my sister is in London and i have friends who go every other week or so, if i face any problem just give them the device and they will get it to handtec and handtec can ship it to my aramex shop and ship address in UK. Blackberries are very reliable. I had a 8900 before and never faced a problem. You should be fine. Lemme know if you got any more questions.

Love everything about it. Size, specs etc. Some of the apps didnt work that use lot of low level APi like BerryBuzz, Quicklaunch Etc but since the release of 9700 they have been updated and work fine. Overall i am happy with the 9700.
