In fact they will make more than one. There is no maybe about it. You just hope the medication error is something minor and will make that nurse more cautious in the future. I can not speak for Childrens specifically, but in general the hospitals around here are very short staffed. They use agency nurses on a daily basis. And with so many patients, when you have one who is vomiting, one in pain, one calling out they need to get up to go to the bathroom all at the same time (meanwhile the nurse has missed lunch and not used the restroom themselves all shift they are so overworked)...perhaps a nurses mind is not focused on the task right in front of them like it should be. Healthcare has been going down the drain the last decade. I am not trying to over defend the nurse, just that it is not completely their fault. The hospital and the entire system needs to make some changes. He was rolling onto his stomach very young, during prime SIDS age when it is crammed down a parents throat to never let their baby sleep on their stomach. I was terrified of SIDS, as many parents are. After some research I did find these to be unsafe so did not purchase one, but I can see what a parent may be thinking when they get one. Dr's need to let parents know that if their baby learns to roll and prefers to sleep on their stomach, there is nothing they can do about it. On a side note, during my research, bumper pads have caused far more deaths than these positioners. FDA should be getting those off the shelves. I do wish other cancers had the public awareness and support, like prostate cancer which affects as many men as breast cancer does women. They should continue to be applauded for their efforts and inspire other foundations to do the same.
