According to news accounts, Manbeck claimed a background check was done. Probably saying that so he won't look as bad in the press. I know first hand as a former member that background checks were done regularly as standard procedure for anyone volunteering in any capacity regardless of whether the position involved contact with children or not. However, since I am no longer there and the staff members who performed these functions resigned over a year before this happened, I have no idea whether they still actually do. As for Posey, he was someone who came and went over the years. Was not attending regularly before I left. Manbeck probably called him up & begged him for help. Just speculation on my part, but that is Manbeck's style. Not one to take no for an answer and will lay the biggest guilt trip on you.
The same could be said for a Commonwealth Church, a Liberty Church, or any other for that matter. Doesn't matter where the pastor graduated from. And in this case it was a member, NOT the pastor. You're comparing apples to oranges. Your aversion to a particular Bible college isn't relevant to the matter at hand. I would be shocked and horrified to find out a person like this was a member of the same church I and my family attend. I'd like to have some kind of guarantee this couldn't possibly happen wherever I go. And I'd like to think that a church is one place where something like this could never happen. Unfortunately there are no such guarantees in life. In this day and age, one must be extremely vigilant. Never let your guard down for a second.
