"The new urban renewal area is expected to triple the tax base in the 144-acre district from $620 million to $1.85 billion. Projects could begin as early as next summer."

Ahhhh yes government insanity at its finest. Build it and they will come!

How many condos buildings etc have to be built in order to more than double the tax base? That, in a market where they wont even release occupancy of downtown condo buildings that have been around since the beginning of the boom, afraid it would scare off prospective buyers. Nor shall we mention the auctions, fire sale prices etc for existing units.

"Multnomah County, which could get $19 million of the money for a new headquarters for its human services division,"

I am assuming that is so the indigent don't blight up the fancy new urban renewal area. "shakes head"

It is going to be a long summer for certain parts of the metro area.

Lets all just hope they keep it in their neighborhoods and not bring it downtown.

How does someone so educated, have such out to lunch logic?

As a natural born citizen and Oregonian, I interpret the Governors statement, as no Oregonians need to possess a drivers license to be on the road. If illegals can drive without enjoying the hassle and expense of the DMV etc, then so should we.

Governor, if your reading this, you have really turned into a goofball in your old age.

Thanks Mae and Don,

I will leave this example from my previous submission.

Example: Friends moved into a new house last year, they leave for one night and get cleaned out. Come to find out, the neighbors kid is a raging drug addict who will steal anything not nailed down. He has a record a mile long. Police figure he did it, the neighbors all say he was the one. BTW several neighbors apologized for not warning them about the lowlifes tendencies and telling them to get a house sitter, this dirtbag is that bad. He hast been seen since.

I am in favor of having the registry go even further. To violent offenders. Assault, robbery, burglary etc. There are a lot more of those than sex offenders, and they concern everyone. Your neighbor a drug addict who steals everything not nailed down? And has the record to prove it? Yea you would want to know.

I had a longer more in depth rant along this line, but for some reason the mods seen to deem it unacceptable. And deleted it three times.

So lets see. Earthquake happens, yet we need to be notified about it? Because nobody noticed? Most large scale disasters are pretty self evident.

With all the mediums out there all ready, TV, web, car and home radio etc. Kinda seems overly redundant. And if those are not working, kinda doubt tweeting will work. And as far as a disaster, where does everyone go? Home. And what is everyone going to be glued too? And using our local media's coverage of a few snowflakes falling as an example, you think people will be short on information? lol I am sure also it's cash cow for who ever is contracted for this service.

I do suppose that if your sitting in the middle of a big field with only a cell phone, then yea, it might be a good thing letting you know, I5 North is closed due to the I5 bridge collapsing during the quake. But then again...your sitting........ in a field.

I worked with a gal several years ago, who was in her late 20's at the time, who confided in me that she danced for 6 years, Starting at the age of 16, down in Cali. then here in Oregon plus a few other states, while under 18. Using a fake California ID the whole time.

She said it wasnt that uncommon of a practice.

What gets me is these guys who get a full ride, and bail before their senior year to play pro. Should be some obligation that if they don't finish academically, in order to go pro, they need to pay back the scholarship.

The state as a whole recently had a whine fest about PERs payouts etc......Free ride educations are not cheap. And if they bail early for a multi million dollar gig?
