I've lived in Phoenix for 15 years. Don't just drink plenty of liquids. Drink them before you are thirsty. I'm very serious about this. Start hydrating at least an hour before going outside into the heat for whatever activity you are planning. Same rule for kids. Get at least a quart before heading out, 8 ounces for kids. Then, drink at least 12 ounces and hour for adults and 6 ounces for kids. Not only use sunscreen but use it well in advance of getting into the sun. Phoenicians will put it on right after showering in the morning. And, we'll put on another coat once we get to our destination. Lastly, wear a hat that covers your head that allows your head to breath. No plastic liners. Only a straw hat and a cotton liner. Don't get thirsty. Stay well hydrated. Getting a headache is the first sign of dehydration. Don't just treat with aspirin. Treat with double dose of the hourly water rate. After the first 12 ounces, then take the aspirin.

After moving beyond the headache, the person will get dizzy and feel faint. They'll then get lethargic/sluggish. Then you are nearing a heat stroke. The skin will be cold to the touch, the eyes will be dialated, and the pulse will be feint. The person will be very close to being unconscious slipping in/out. They will be very confused. If you've ever had to move a person with heat stroke, their body will be like dead weight and difficult to move. Please, get them under cover fast and out of the sun if possible. Their body will become dead weight. You only have minutes to get fluids into them and they might not be able to keep fluids down. But, keep at it.

Please don't go anywhere in your car without at least a spare 1 gallon jug of water. We even tote a quart size bottle of water going to the grocery store. Keep an extra car blanket in your trunk. We don't think about it anymore, but, doing these little things will keep your fun... fun.

Regards to All and enjoy your beautiful cities and countryside.
