Bad cops are a miniscule minority. Most cops chose their job for all the right reasons - to protect and serve. If more citizens would use courtesy and common sense in their interactions with the police - these incidents would be even rarer than the already low incidence. When the cops issue an order, just obey the order - put up your hands, get on the ground - whatever. If your civil rights are violated in the transaction, you'll get your day in court. The cops are only trying to protect themselves and the public. When you think of how many guns are out there - hundreds of millions in the USA - you'd be a little wary too if you were a cop. Be safe - politely comply with the officers orders. It's that simple.

KATU yanked my post, probably because I called the reporter a moron. This article is seriously wrong about the law. If everyone were careful and courteous on the road, this stuff wouldn't happen.
