If this "super class" does indeed have all the power you say it does and that it wants to keep the planet "relatively pristine" (too late for that by a longshot), then why is it in their interest to scare the world's people that we're about to enter World War III?

When the so-called Cold War ended, that idiotic cold war warrior mindset never left the US. There are those making policy who still believe that the US can win a nuclear war with Russia, which is why there is such a danger of a US first strike. Per Escobar's article, Russia has a superior nuclear arsenal than the US, making it even more possible that the US thinks it must strike first. Will bomb shelters be making a comeback? Takes me back to the old "Twilight Zone" episodes from the 50's.

Where is this Russian empire you speak of? What other countries besides its own does Russia control? Try listening to something besides Faux News. Troll!

How and why has President Putin helped to create this tension?

Where does the Institute for Economics and Peace get such exact figures on the amount of people killed by "terrorism"? "3,361" in 2000. "17,958" last year. What methodology are they using to determine what constitutes a terrorist attack? They are not counting the amount of innocent people killed by USG bombing and other methods as being victims of terrorist attacks. If they did the figures would be ten times as high.

I'm dismayed that the American public hasn't demonstrated the same outrage toward this insanity that they did last summer when Obama wanted to start bombing the crap out of Damascus over what turned out to be a lie. Their relative quiet obviously has a lot to do with these manufactured IS bogeymen (worse than, Al Queda!) and their oh-so-convenient beheading videos. Not to say if they're authentic or not, but they would certainly be an easy thing for the CIA or whoever to stage. These IS jihadist religious fanatics may be evil, but it is certainly in the interest of the USG to hype them and exaggerate their atrocities in order to accomplish the real goal - the overthrow of the secular Assad government.

The one big exception being the still ongoing Iranian peace talks. With the GOP warmongers about to take over, they're hanging on by a slender thread.

I meant to say he'd be out of the Senate NOW.

Who on earth wants the job now? I say give it to McCain, but make him a figurehead only and don't give him any responsibility. At least that way that idiot war lover would be out of the Senate in two years. It would be Obama's sweet revenge.

I like the comparison to Dahmer/Bundy. But disagree with your obvious partisanship. A great series to watch is Oliver Stone's "Untold History of the United States," which concentrates on US history since WWII. The only president that comes off good is JFK, who changed from a cold war hawk to a man of peace during his last year or so in office. We all know what happened to him. After his assassination by a lone gunman (what a crock of s**t that is), it has been all downhill for the USA ever since. This country's never recovered from LBJ's idiotic Vietnam War.
