The only thing that was pirated was iTunes which is a free program, iTunes does not let you download earlier versions. :)

OMFG! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! You are truly a lifesaver Osayi, It looked like it installed firmware to about 75% - 80% and all of a sudden it restarted and popped up with the iTunes Recovery picture on the slide to unlock screen. I slide to unlock and it was popping up all kinda different languages and had a emergency call thing. Then all of a sudden it saying now activating so I wait a moment and it activated!!

So you want me to get iTunes 8.2.1 correct before i attempt this fix?

I tried restoring on another computer using iTunes 8.1.1.10 and It actually looked like it was restoring until about half way & it starting verifying and i got a similar error message.

“The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (10)"

So when Im holding Power & Home buttons down simultaneously till it goes off its not actually entering DFU mode?

I put my iPhone into DFU mode, screen went completely black. I try to restore firmware 3.0.1 downloading using iTunes but yet again I still get the same 3004 error.

I'm using a pirated copy of iTunes 8.2.0.10 Pre-Release from piratesbay, I'm starting to honestly think its the copy of iTunes that is screwing up. Also I have reason to believe that there is no OS installed on my iPhone at the moment because iTunes is not show "Capacity, Software Version, or Serial Number. For the iPhone name it is just showing "iPhone" which wasn't what I named it when i first got it, also I didn't register my iPhone, could this be a issue with iTunes? I was logged into my girlfriends iTunes accound.

I ran a diagnostics in iTunes and for the iPhone / iPod connectivity test it is showing that "iTunes Helper is not running" & for the ports it is showing "No iPhone or iPod found"

For the sync test it also shows "No iPhone or iPod found"

Im using Windows XP Pro, iTunes 8.2.0.10. I attempt to restore using Shift & click restore, it still gives me the same error “The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3004)" after trying to verify iPhone restore. I am desperate for answers, some please help!

Should I try using a different computer?

I am running Windows XP Professional Corp with SP3, I am using iTunes 8.2.0.10.

My iPhone 3GS was jailbroken with redsn0w 0.8 using this method:

I open iTunes and plug iPhone into it and hold shift and click restore and open firmware 3.0.1 and try to restore. I get the same error message from iTunes “The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3004)"

Any other suggestions, do you think I should try a different computer?

I used this method to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS with 3.0.1 firmware on it, the jailbreak had no problems what so ever. I open cydia and it ask me to update so I do complete update, I restart cydia and go to install MobileSubstrate & it starts to install… …I keep waiting, I start to relize after about 5 minutes or so that the install froze. I goto iTunes and click restore to restore to orignal, iTunes downloads Firmware 3.0.1 and begins to attempt to restore, all of a sudden I get a error message from iTunes telling me “The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3004)

When I unplug usb & plug back in I get the message “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”

I’m stuck in recovery!!!! PLEASE HELP!
