Wow, when I was a kid head lice was no big deal socially. Sure, kids would get it and they'd be taken out of school, but a lot of us were jealous that they got to stay home. It certainly isn't something anyone got teased over.

No arguments. Waste of tax dollars indeed.

Poor judgement, sure. Fired? Heck no. He was probably just trying to come up with an innovative way to engage his students; which is particularly difficult in subjects like geometry that have a "boring" stigma.

Is it calling for 1/2 cup of orange juice itself, or the concentrate? If it's the OJ wouldn't you want to reduce it a little bit before using it as a sauce?

As rad as it would be for this solution to come from WA, I seriously think the solution proposed by this guy from Florida is way better:http://cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2010/05/07/dnt.oi...

It's a sugar-cane based powder that repels water and absorbs the oil, then bacteria (he says they've been proven safe) consume the oil and turn the whole mess into dirt. How cool is that? Minimal if any clean-up.

Agreed! Not only that, but the kid's reaction is going to be conditioned by his dad's reaction. If his dad had reacted positively, making it a big deal about how it showed that they'd even looked at his picture, then the kid could have come away feeling really good about it.

Jenny was my friend; a dear kind soul who simply exuded grace and joy from her pores. She didn't know how to be any other way. It hurts that she's gone.

However, Jed was also someone else' son or brother. Mercy is what his soul needs--not "rotting in hell."

No kidding! Have they driven I-405 lately? Not THAT many folks actually carpool and those that do RARELY have more than 2 people. Doing this will actually reduce the incentive to carpool and increase the number of single-occupancy vehicles overall. I know I'd be thinking, "What's the point now? Jim and I are the only ones who live close enough together to carpool, and the hassle of coordinating for two of us isn't worth it if it isn't going to change my commute."
