The Catholic Church (of which I am a relapsed devotee) never fails to entertain: Pope Exonerates Jews http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/03/world/europe/03... PHEW! Well THAT's a relief.

Crasstalk : Supreme Court Is Just Fine with Animal Crush Videos

Who on GOD'S GREEN EARTH gets off on this sort of stuff? I've always maintained a 'live-and-let-live' attitude regarding other folks' proclivities, sexual and otherwise, but once (uninvited) suffering comes into play, the line is drawn. This is just some seriously sick, sick shit.

Even if it's only five bucks, it is worth contributing to either organization. I am more familiar with the Humane Society (HSUS) and its work, and know that HSUS is aware of, on top of, and consistently fighting hard against these repulsive "crush" videos.

Crasstalk : Crasstalk is back!

I was pretty put off by the comments as well. The standards seem to have slipped - in a truly substantive manner - for one, I've never seen so many trolls engaged at such length; for another, the comments themselves seem to lack much of the sharp wit and informed snark that always made Gawker such an enjoyable read. Is it because so many of the best commenters defected to this site? In agreement about the writers as well. Richard Lawson, Brian Moylan, Maureen O'Connor, et. al., - consistently provided entertaining and witty content. I'd hate to think that they (or others) would suffer in any way as a result of a poorly conceived/executed redesign.

My sentiments exactly. With Crasstalk down yesterday, I wandered (guiltily), back to the Other Site. Nice that blog view was restored, and that there is now a mechanism in place to view all comments. But considering the ID/password hacker fiasco, the godawful redesign, and the site’s tendency to erroneously sensationalize/overhype post titles while completely undelivering post content, I think Jezebel will be the only place I'll still visit with any regularity in the future. Crasstalk is my new home.

Crasstalk : Odd Facial Hair Configurations And Other Stuff

My honey is between jobs at the moment (thankfully an offer is on the table and he'll be back to work in two weeks); in the meantime, he has grown himself a beard - as it turns out, a white one (ahhh! we are sooo old!). Between his attitude and his appearance, he has heartily earned the sobriquet "Grumpy McWhiteBeard." It looks pretty good but it hurts like hell, so +50 on looks, -50 on texture.

Crasstalk : Predicting the Oscars: Best Supporting Actor

I was going to weigh in for Jeremy Renner even before I read your fearsome warning... Despite the comments above ("Ben Affleck’s second homecoming vanity project"), I honestly felt the Academy snubbed "The Town" - out of 10 films, no love? That's not right...

Sounds like a gem (of the variety we all encountered in our wasted/misbegotten youth)! I am, frankly, "extremely amused" and more than a little curious as to how this ostensibly hetero dude knew what jizz smells like...hmm.

Crasstalk : Wake Up Open Thread

Apropos of nothing, I just wanted to share my own appreciation of Spalding Gray, who died roughly seven years ago. I recently caught "Life Interrupted" - the documentary homage by Steven Soderbergh, and it reminded me how much I miss Gray, and how honestly forlorn I am that no new monologues are forthcoming. The film did inspire me to go back and re-read the transcriptions of Gray's monologues, which can be a delight if you have seen Gray perform them often enough to recall his inflection as he said one or another phrase. Gray had such a wonderful sensibility, and he spoke for so many of us. I would love to quote him over and over, but I'll leave it at this, which I think rings true for a silent but growing minority: "I get swept back to New England where I came from. I get swept back to New England where I used to believe in God and eternity and all the things the play [Our Town] is about. Before I came to New York City and became a hardcore Freudian existentialist." My apologies that I'm not a more gifted writer; Gray certainly deserves a first rate keeper-of-the-flame.

Realize that I'm really, really late in responding - but couldn't ignore this! What an incredibly bizarre factoid! Are men throughout the country - or world - attempting to utilize black paint as an aphrodisiac? (Perhaps I misunderstood the point of the story...) But who in God's name would cream their jeans over the smell of jizz?

Thank you so much for this post - I was just reading, elsewhere, about these appalling bills, and was blissfully surprised when I dropped in at Crasstalk to see that the issue was (so deftly!) being delineated and discussed here. Makes me even happier to have made this my new "downtime" home.
