I don't agree with the idea of a DNA database. That is too much information in one spot. Even if it were supposedly private someone could probably find a way to get in

Scott Granneman's Classes : On the Second Life Tax Revolt

A virtual government would be very interesting. The current owners/creators seem like they can do whatever they want. It would be fun to see how they conduct the election if democracy were the choice. I suppose they could create voting stations and conduct an actual election

It's astounding to me how much money is invested in these virtual worlds. Like Brian and Sam said, they soon might be able to rival small countries GDP. unbelievable

I can't believe that people invest real money (especially this amount of money) in something tangible. however, it sounds like the guy is making money off of it so I guess it's a good investment

Global warming is a problem created by society and I would contend that nearly every individual on the earth today has done something that in some way contributed to it. Absurd idea to try and pin it on an individual in court.

I think that there is a high probability that this lawsuit will eventually occur. I think something like this will eventually happen for facebook as well. Personally, I think the idea is pretty ridiculous and both would get turned down in court but I can definitely imagine this situation.

It's tough to even comprehend the purchasing of planets or stars. It's even more difficult to predict how ownership would be resolved. If this ever becomes an issue, I think that there would be an arms race to claim/purchase as many planets and stars as possible.

I don't really have a problem with the technology here, but morally it bothers me. Why would you want to to mess with something as natural as childbirth. Doesn't hair coloring and color contacts already take care of these factors?

Scott Granneman's Classes : Beans and big business land N.J. farmer in court

What Sam is talking about is hybrid seeds that corporations like Monsanto develop to screw farmers and drive up prices. Hybrid seed produces a strong first generation of crops that have one or multiple traits that help the plant immensely, but the second generation of seed doesn't produce a good harvest and can't be replanted so farmers are force to buy new seed each year and pay the corporations like monsanto.

I've read about this incident before. It's almost certain that this contamination happened naturally though wind and pollen. Mexico and its farmers certainly have a right to be pissed that their natural landraces were contaminated though. If I remember correctly, the same researchers did a follow up study and found no contamination which shows how variable and quickly genes move naturally

Scott Granneman's Classes : Farmer Liable For Growing Biotech Crops

This is a ridiculous case for Monsanto to win because it's pretty much impossible to stop the spreading of pollen between fields and I'm sure the farmer had no intention of stealing this technology. It's really a shame that companies like MOnsanto have this much power.
